Sustainable Connexions International (SusCo) is a nonprofit organization with a vision to transform under-resourced and underserved communities into safe and thriving communities for children and families. Some of the best learning happens when children have room to move, participate, ask questions, and learn alongside one another.

Moments like this are part of the experience at Read, Feed and Lead in Ghana.

The program brings young people together for learning activities that go beyond the classroom - building communication, confidence, leadership skills, and connection along the way.

What matters isn't only what children learn during a session.

It's having a space where they can take part, be heard, and keep discovering what they're capable of.

Give a young person a camera and you may get a photograph.

Give them a reason to look closely at their world, listen to someone else's story and share their own and something much bigger can happen.

That's part of the idea behind Through the Eyes of Youth.

Young people in Ghana and the U.S. explore their communities through photography and video while learning about culture, leadership and service.

But perhaps the most important part is this:

They're not just the subjects of the story.

They're the storytellers.

Through the Eyes of Youth creates opportunities for young people in Ghana and the U.S. to use photography and video to share pieces of their worlds and discover what connects them.

Different communities.

Different experiences.

One generation learning from each other.

Sustainable change starts by listening to the people closest to the work.

One of SusCo’s most important lessons has been that communities already possess many of the strengths needed to create change.

They have talented educators.

Committed volunteers.

Caring families.

And leaders who understand the needs and aspirations of their children.

SusCo may help develop the program framework, but local Ghanaian teachers and community leaders bring that framework to life each week.

They understand the culture.

They know the children.

They recognize both the challenges and the possibilities within their communities.

Sustainable development is not about arriving with all the answers.

It is about listening, building trust, and empowering local leaders to guide the work.

Laughter, Learning, and New Friendships in Ekon, Cape Coast, Ghana! 🎉

What an incredible Saturday at our Camp-in-the-Box event in Cape Coast! We were thrilled to welcome a wonderful group of youth from Indiana, United States, to spend the day with our children in Ekon, Ghana. 🇬🇭🤝🇺🇸

The energy was absolutely electric! Our children and youth participated in a full day of:
Sports & Team Games
Arts, Crafts & Dance
Reading & Math Competitions
Creative Expression

It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of connection. Seeing the kids share their talents, learn from each other, and build bridges across continents was truly heartwarming.

A huge thank you to our visitors from Indiana for bringing the Camp-in-the-Box experience to life and for embracing our community with so much joy!

🇬🇭✈️🇺🇸 They're HERE!

We are buzzing with excitement as we welcome a group of 14 youth and adults from Indianapolis to Ghana this morning!

They are diving straight into the "Through the Eyes of Youth" program—a powerful exchange that uses photography to explore leadership and development from a youth perspective.

Nine (9) young leaders from the US are headed to Ekon, Cape Coast to work side-by-side with their Ghanaian peers on the "Camp-in-the-Box" community service project!

Big thanks to our partners Edna Martin Christian Center and WAYS, and our local team at OVC Connexions Ghana for bringing this vision to life. Let the collaboration begin!

One of the moments we'll never forget happened shortly after launching Read, Feed and Lead.

The expectation was to serve approximately 23 children.

Instead, more children showed up.

Some waited outside the school gates, hoping there might be room for them to participate.

Their enthusiasm wasn't just a sign of interest.

It was a reminder of how deeply children value opportunities to learn, connect, and grow.

Potential is everywhere.

Opportunity isn't.

That's why this work matters.

When people hear "leadership development," they often picture adults in boardrooms.

We picture children.

Children learning to communicate confidently.

Children solving problems together.

Children supporting one another.

Children discovering their voices.

Leadership isn't something that begins after graduation.

It starts the moment a young person realizes they can positively influence the people around them.

That's exactly what we hope to nurture through Read, Feed and Lead.
