Thank you to all who attended our Spring cleanup yesterday! Our volunteers covered a lot of ground and gathered more than a dozen bags of trash. The grabbers, vests, and dumpster loaned to us by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. made our work so much easier! Many of our volunteers were from Community Hospital East, so a special thank you to you all as well! We will be hosting another cleanup in the fall, so we hope to see you then.

Our Pet of the Month for April is Cheese the Pomeranian! I've always had a soft spot for Poms and -- ugh -- will you just look at him? Look how proud and cute he is in that Birthday Boy bandana!

Cheese joined his family in 2024 as a foster fail from Silver Snout Senior Dog Rescue in Indianapolis. We hope he and his family have many more golden years together!

During the winter, one of our board members went for a patrol around the neighborhood and used the RequestIndy app to report potholes to the city. The power to report potholes, illegal dumping, and other nuisances and hazards is in your hands, too!

You can download the mobile RequestIndy app from Google Play or the App Store. Open the app and select Create New Request. Select the category that is most applicable to you and answer questions, which include marking the nuissance/hazard on the map.

You can also go the Request Indy website to get a view of all existing requests: https://request.indy.gov/citizen/s/service-requests?servicerequested=all

We have insider confirmation that multiple reports of the same nuisance/hazard will bump a request up in the inspection queue.

Hope this was helpful!

Has that piece of exercise equipment become a coat rack? Was that zoodler not the culinary revelation you thought it'd be (guilty)? On Jun 06 from 9AM - 3PM residents can join in the annual neighborhood yard sale, which coincides with the one in Irvington. No fees or rules. Just post up your sale in your yard or garage the day of and watch the bargain hunters roll by. Will send more reminders as the weather gets warmer :)

Thank you to Ella Rhoades at WTHR for covering the abandoned medical building on 16th and Ritter. The building is a blight on the neighborhood and poses a health and safety risk to the residents of Community Heights. A friendly reminder that concerned citizens can report the building as unsafe at the Mayor's Action Center webpage, and contact IMPD upon spotting concerning behavior. The squeaky wheel gets the grease -- so they say -- and continued complaints on the building may improve the odds city prioritizing this issue.
