Community pottery studio in Indianapolis. Now booking classes, memberships, and private events!

Yellow Door Ceramics Studio was founded in 2021 by co-owners Felissa King and Amanda Pennington. It is located at the Meadows Design Complex in central Indianapolis. We offer one night classes, 6 week classes, private lessons, and corporate and private parties. We also offer studio memberships so you can have full use of the studio and storage space for your work.

This studio wouldn’t be the same without these warm, welcoming, and hands-on folks. From their technical expertise to their thoughtful instruction, they keep everything running smoothly. We quite literally could not offer such a diverse lineup of classes without them. Thankful is an understatement! 💛

The Session Three theme of Intermediate Wheel is “Throwing with Intention.” We will be diving deep into throwing and trimming to take your pots to the next level — including throwing for height, width, and accuracy. If you want to improve your throwing skills and scale up your pieces, this is the course for you.

As with all of our classes, you are welcome to work on whatever piques your interest after the demonstration is finished. The skills from this class will be wide-ranging and applicable to achieving your goals on the wheel!

It’s that time of year again, folks 🌸 We would love for you to join us for our annual Spring Sale. We will be open from 1-4 PM on Saturday, May 9th to shop handmade ceramics, meet the makers and tour our class and membership spaces. This will be the perfect stop for any last minute Mother’s Day gifts, too! Mark your calendars, we would love to see you 💛

We are debuting a new Intro to Handbuilding course time this coming session with the amazing Joey Ponce for our daytime folks! This class will be held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am - 12pm (with Open Studio hours immediately after 😍).

In handbuilding, you can achieve all of the forms you dream of, whether functional or sculptural! Not sure if you have the imagination for it? Our instructors are skilled at helping you figure out how to put your new techniques to use, deciding what to build!

Registration will be open on our website for the next week until the course begins 💫

Studio refresh alert 💛 This one is for the hand-building students!

The layout of the hand-building room has felt off (to co-owner Amanda, at least 🤪) for months, so we were eager to rearrange everything during this class session break. This new layout provides a little more space on both sides of the work table, easier access to student shelving, and a condensed reclaim area to process clay.

Mark your calendars! 🗓️ Registration for Session Two of our 8-Week Courses will open on Saturday, February 28th at noon!

We will be using the queue system again for this registration, so please familiarize yourself with this process by reading about it on our website. Most importantly - log onto our website between 10AM and 12PM on registration day and hang tight. You don’t have to sit in front of your screen, but be sure to have it open again before 12PM. At 12:01 the system will automatically shuffle everyone who is online into a queue and will begin letting folks through to the site to register in the randomized order.

We are excited to add a weekday morning Intro to Hand Building class this session, as well as bring our One Night instructor Eva on for a 8-Week course. We will announce the Intermediate project schedules soon! Intermediate Wheel will be focusing on surface decoration techniques and we can’t wait to see what Alex has in store for the Intermediate Hand-Building students ✨

Nice weather means kiln shelf maintenance for the studio because it’s an outdoor only activity (dusty!!) 🌞 A high of 50*F is such a treat after all of the snow in Indianapolis. If you’re in another part of the country, what is the weather like there today? 🤔

I feel like a proud mom 🥹 My Intermediate Wheel students this session are tackling difficult projects, embracing failure and pushing themselves to new creative limits 💪

This dish is based on a thrown and altered form that I learned during a workshop at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts () from artist Deb Schwarzkopf () 💛
