Circle City Black K.A.R.E. Initiative on Kidney Health

During the months of November and December, Eskenazi Health and Circle City Black K.A.R.E. Initiative, sponsored by the Circle City (IN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, are partnering with area churches to promote kidney health among the Black community of Indianapolis.

K.A.R.E., which stands for Kidney Awareness, Resources and Education, is a project focused on increasing the awareness and prevention efforts regarding chronic kidney disease. The initiative will focus on kidney education and information, facilitating screenings for early detection and prevention, and advocating nutritionally healthy and physically active lifestyles among the Black community.

Kidneys play a vital role in maintaining good health by removing excess fluid and waste, controlling blood pressure and pH levels, helping to keep bones healthy, and assisting in making red blood cells.

Community members will have access to online cooking and exercise demonstrations and can also receive meal and recipe kits at New Era Church, 517 W. 30th St. on Sunday, Dec. 5.

Those interested may register for a meal and recipe kit online by clicking here: https://m.signupgenius.com/ #!/showSignUp/10c0f4aaea722a0fbc16-circle
