What does it take to become an Indiana State Trooper?

For 24 young adults, the answer came through sweat, hard work, mentorship, and a week unlike any other.

From June 3-7, 2026, participants took part in the Indiana State Police SHIELD Project, an immersive multi-day experience designed to provide a firsthand look at a career with the Indiana State Police.

Throughout the week, participants challenged themselves through daily physical training, learned about criminal investigations, explored Indiana State Police specialized units and operations, trained in self-defense and Tac Med, spent a day at the fi****ms range, and completed ride-alongs with Indiana State Troopers. They also received academy preparation and valuable mentorship from troopers committed to developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

The experience concluded with participants attending the first day of the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy alongside the newest class of recruits, giving them a unique opportunity to experience the beginning of an ISP career firsthand.

Programs like SHIELD allow Indiana State Troopers to work directly with young adults, providing mentorship, guidance, and insight into the many opportunities available within the Indiana State Police. We are proud of the dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm demonstrated by each participant throughout the week and look forward to seeing where their future paths lead!
