Did you know that we want to add 3,625 acres of buffers? This is 25% of the Pleasant Run watershed! Riparian buffers are just one great way that you can protect city streams.

I can remember my little brother hanging on tree branches over the top of the stream that ran through our property growing up. He would reach in to catch fish with his bare hands. He was quite successful, amazingly. This was pretty much a daily occurrence much to my mother’s chagrin.

Bob Barr, from CEES, hosted the Friends of Pleasant Run for a tour of the mitigation project occurring near the Pleasant Run golf course. The project started in 2010 as an innovative partnership between INDOT, the City of Indianapolis, Indy Parks and the Indianapolis Parks Foundation to fund and construct a $1 million off-site stream restoration project. The streams run through Pleasant Run Golf Course on land owned by the City and managed by Indy Parks and are being restored to mitigate impacts from INDOT’s 465/69 Northeast project.

A mandatory water restriction will go into effect this Friday. Flower & vegetable gardens are exempt as are trees less than 5 years old.

Starting Friday, July 13, Indianapolis will be under mandatory watering restrictions. That includes a ban on lawn watering.

Also, don't forget to save the date - August 2nd - for the Pleasant Run mitigation project tour. More details to come!

The Friends of Pleasant Run are gearing up for a "summer celebration" in July. Stay tuned for more details and plan to attend. Minutes from Wednesday's meeting have been posted to the website.

If you weren’t able to attend the latest meeting with the Friends of Pleasant Run, there are still plenty of ways to be involved in the project!

Pleasant Run isn't scheduled to be completed until 2025, but at least work is starting soon on the CSOs in Indianapolis.

Years of wrangling with environmental officials and working out plans to drastically reduce the release of raw sewage into Indianapolis' waterways finally have given way to action.
