🌱 Volunteer Spotlight: Paul Smith 🌱

It takes a community to grow a garden, and we're grateful for volunteers like Paul Smith who help make that possible!

This week, Paul spent time at the Growing Places Indy garden:🌿 W**ding garden beds🌱 Planting new crops💧 Watering and caring for existing plants🌎 Helping create a healthier, greener community space for everyone

Every w**d pulled, every seed planted, and every volunteer hour invested helps us continue our mission of connecting people to fresh food, nature, and community.

Thank you, Paul, for planting positive change and helping our garden thrive! 💚

🌱 Volunteer Spotlight 🌱

A huge thank you to volunteer Lisa James for donating and planting Sedum, a beautiful perennial plant, in the garden! 💚

The John Creech Stonecrop features small scalloped green leaves that create a durable, w**d-smothering groundcover while producing soft pink flowers that add layers of color to the space. 🌸

Benefits of Sedum:
✨ W**d Reduction
✨ Ornamental Beauty
✨ Pollinator Friendly 🐝🦋
✨ Edible Leaves & Flowers

Thank you, Lisa, for helping Growing Places Indy create a greener, healthier, and more beautiful community one plant at a time! 🌿

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR SHARING

🌱 Mindfulness, movement, and meaningful learning in action.

Youth of Global Prep Academy spent the day connecting with nature, community, and creativity at the farm. Students participated in a short mindful walking meditation, helped plant greens in the garden, and explored the importance of slowing down and being present while working with the earth.

After time in the garden, the group headed inside the Eiteljorg Museum to experience Cowboy Couture: The Fashion of Jerry Lee Atwood through an interactive scavenger hunt that encouraged observation, curiosity, and cultural exploration.

Experiences like these help youth build self-awareness, teamwork, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to the world around them — one moment, one breath, and one seed at a time. 🌿✨

We are currently booking Summer 2026 field trips and would love to partner with your organization.

Rain or shine, the work continues. 🌱💚

A huge THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who came out to support the garden yesterday! Together we planted and covered 72 collards and kale plants while helping prepare the space for even more growth ahead.

We still have 5 more flats ready to be planted in the 3rd bed soon! 🌿

Every seed planted is a step toward community, nourishment, learning, and connection to the land.

We appreciate every helping hand that continues to grow with us. 💪🏾🌎

🌱 Mindfulness in the garden is more than planting food…It’s planting peace, patience, healing, and connection. 🧘🏾‍♀️✨

When we slow down in nature, we create space to breathe deeper, think clearer, and reconnect with ourselves and our community.

Gardening teaches us:🌿 Growth takes time🌞 Be present in the moment🪴 Care for what we nurture💚 Healing happens naturally

Mindful gardening helps youth, families, and communities:✨ Reduce stress✨ Build self-awareness✨ Strengthen family connection✨ Reconnect with food, land, and wellness

A mindful garden cultivates more than crops —it cultivates healing, grounding, and growth. 🌻

Oh Autumn, you’ve captured the end of our growing season beautifully, thank you 🍂. This has been a year of reflection for us. So much to learn from and get ready for next year. Giving a big thanks to EVERY volunteer who got their hands dirty with us and supported our vision.

Join the Growing Places Indy Collective to celebrate the bounty of food and community connections grown and harvested in the UPick Garden this season.

We’ll begin with a short mindfulness practice and then work together to clean up and prepare the garden for the winter and another fruitful season in 2026.

Join us and grow your garden skills as we work together to pull plants for composting, put away our garden trellises, cover the beds and show our gratitude.

We will have light refreshments as a thanks to such a great growing season. We are extremely grateful to each and every volunteer who got dirty with us year 🪏🪏
