August 22, 2026 (PORTAGE, IN.) – In the wake of recent severe storms that impacted Porter County, The Salvation Army has emerged as a steadfast source of hope and practical assistance for residents facing the difficult road to recovery. Through emergency feeding operations, cleanup kit distribution, and emotional and spiritual care, The Salvation Army - Porter County, IN. has provided support to thousands of individuals and families affected by the disaster.

During the Portage Strong community event at Founders Square, Captain Jim Prichard and volunteers from The Salvation Army continued their recovery efforts by distributing snacks and cleanup supplies to families still working to restore their homes and lives. Since response operations began, The Salvation Army of Porter County has provided more than 7,000 meals and countless opportunities for emotional and spiritual care to residents navigating the challenges of disaster recovery.

When the storms first struck, Salvation Army leaders immediately began asking how they could best serve their community. Within just one hour of meeting with local officials, a request came from the Mayor's Office asking The Salvation Army to provide meals for residents impacted by the storm. By the end of the first day, Salvation Army teams had already distributed more than 1,600 meals to survivor.

Through partnerships with local schools, area restaurants, community organizations, and dedicated volunteers, The Salvation Army was able to sustain feeding operations in the days that followed. As immediate needs began to shift, response efforts transitioned from emergency

"We were humbled by the opportunity to serve our community during one of its most difficult moments," said Captain Jim Prichard, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Porter County. "There is still a long road to recovery ahead for many families, but The Salvation Army remains committed to walking alongside our neighbors every step of the way. Recovery happens when communities come together, and we are honored to be part of that journey."

For many survivors, the support provided by The Salvation Army has been about more than meals or supplies. It has been about knowing they are not alone. Volunteers and Salvation Army officers have listened to stories of loss, offered prayers of encouragement, and provided a steady presence during uncertain days. Those personal connections continue to be an essential part of the organization's disaster response mission.

As Porter County moves from response to recovery, The Salvation Army remains committed to supporting impacted families through practical assistance, spiritual care, and community partnerships. The organization is encouraging individuals, businesses, churches, and civic groups to support ongoing disaster relief efforts through financial contributions, volunteer service, and prayer.

(August 21, 2026 Connersville IN) Members of The Salvation Army's Disaster Services team traveled to Connersville, Indiana, to deliver much-needed cleaning kits that will support ongoing recovery efforts following recent disaster impacts in the community.

In the days and weeks after a disaster, families often face the overwhelming task of cleaning, repairing, and rebuilding their homes and lives. These cleaning kits provide essential supplies that help individuals and families begin that journey toward recovery.

We are especially grateful for the opportunity to resource missionally aligned organizations such as Connersville Baptist Temple, whose commitment to serving their neighbors reflects the best of community collaboration. Meaningful recovery does not happen in isolation. It takes churches, nonprofits, volunteers, and community leaders working together to bring hope, practical assistance, and encouragement to those facing difficult circumstances.

We believe in meeting human needs in Jesus name without discrimination. Whether through emergency disaster response, food assistance, shelter, or long-term recovery support, our mission remains centered on caring for people with compassion, dignity, and love.

NEW CASTLE, Ind. – Since the first hours of the recent flooding in Henry County, The Salvation Army has remained on the front lines of disaster response, providing food, water, hygiene kits, cleaning supplies, emotional and spiritual care, and hands-on assistance to hundreds of affected families. As floodwaters receded, The Salvation Army's response shifted into recovery mode, helping residents begin the difficult process of rebuilding their homes and lives.

At the center of the effort is The Salvation Army of Henry County, Indiana in New Castle, which has transformed its gymnasium into a hub of hope and recovery for the community. Volunteers and Salvation Army officers have worked tirelessly to distribute essential supplies and support families facing overwhelming loss.

Envoy Beth Stamper, whose days have been spent shoulder-to-shoulder with survivors in some of the community's hardest-hit neighborhoods. During a recent visit, Stamper was found in the basement of a flooded home helping remove destroyed belongings, including appliances, furniture, and treasured family keepsakes damaged beyond repair. Her uniform was covered in mud and debris from hours of labor.

Despite the physical exhaustion, Stamper remained focused on serving others. "Today my uniform is covered in mud," she said. "But in the days immediately after the flooding, it was covered in tears. People would put their head on my shoulder and cry as they shared everything they had lost. Sometimes the most important thing we could do was simply listen, pray, and remind them that they were not alone."

For many survivors, that compassion has been as important as practical assistance.

One local resident told Salvation Army workers that she had never experienced anything like this disaster and felt overwhelmed, lost, and nearly hopeless. She shared that the arrival of Salvation Army volunteers changed everything, providing both tangible help and renewed hope when she needed it most.

Since the disaster began, Salvation Army teams have helped hundreds of families with emergency supplies, cleanup assistance, and emotional and spiritual care. Volunteers have spent countless hours mucking out flooded homes, removing damaged belongings, and helping residents take the first steps toward recovery.

The Salvation Army's commitment to Henry County remains steadfast. "The Salvation Army has been serving Henry County for more than 100 years," said Stamper. "We were here before the flood, we were here during the flood, and we will be here long after the disaster is over. Recovery doesn't happen in a day, and our commitment to this community is steadfast”

As recovery efforts continue, The Salvation Army is encouraging the public to support ongoing disaster relief operations through financial contributions, volunteer service, and prayer for affected families.
