About Diane Kaplan:
Kaplan brings decades of leadership experience to these sessions, having served as CEO of Alaska’s largest private foundation for 27 years. Her distinguished career includes roles as CEO of a major nonprofit media organization and manager of grantmaking for a California state agency. She was also a founding board member of United States Artists and served as Vice Chair of the Council on Foundations in Washington, D.C.

"I’m calling on more funders to join me in backing the people and organizations working to find better solutions for women," Melinda French Gates said in a written statement. "When women are healthier, their families, communities, and countries are, too." This kind of statement sets French Gates apart from other ultra-wealthy funders, Jacqueline Ackerman said. Major donors rarely publicly call on others to give alongside them, according to Ackerman, who notes that the way French Gates frames the call to action is both a challenge and ‘an invitation with warmth to it.’

The 2026 Global Philanthropy Tracker establishes a critical baseline for answering that question. Using 2023 data from 47 countries—representing 60% of the global population—the report captures the state of global philanthropy before substantial reductions in official development assistance (ODA) began reshaping the international funding landscape.

As the implications of aid reductions become clearer in the coming years, understanding the relationship between philanthropy, remittances, private capital investment, and government assistance is more important than ever.

We invite presentations that use laboratory or fields experiments to investigate social preferences that shape philanthropic giving (including altruism, reciprocity, inequity aversion, warm-glow giving, etc.), techniques charities may use to increase giving, the role of culture on giving, and development of social preferences (i.e., experiments with children/young adults). Topics that are also of interest are volunteerism, the organization of charities/how they operate, and organ/blood donation. The deadline for submission is June 19th, 2026.
