Each year, ESPN and Special Olympics North America honor one school from each state that goes above and beyond in creating a culture of inclusion, advocacy and respect for students with and without intellectual disabilities.

Mr. Smith's and Mrs. Blythe's fifth grade classroom at Cherry Tree Elementary in Carmel is cheering on Team Indiana as they head into training camp in preparation for the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis. As part of Disability Awareness Month, the students learned about Special Olympics Indiana. Mr. Smith's class made cards for each Team Indiana athlete and Unified partner. The class then invited Head of Delegation Katie Hilt and Team Indiana athlete Blake Buckner to speak to the class about Team Indiana, intellectual disabilities and the power of inclusion.

Sam and Manny are members of the Team Indiana flag football squad, joining more than 100 other athletes, coaches and support staff in preparing to represent the Hoosier state on the national stage.
