Thank you to the folks at Acton United Methodist Church for collecting books for our Soup's On Free Library. We now have a supply that will last for several months! They also brought along some Christmas socks to use in our backpack giveaway this December. We are so fortunate to have Acton UMC as a partner in ministry.

Oh, what a glorious day! On Sunday, September 20th we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Roberts Park UMC sanctuary with a monumental community cookout after a very special worship service. Just shy of 250 meals were served thanks to the amazing people from Southport United Methodist Church! With the leadership of Criss Marshall, the team shopped, prepared, and served hamburgers and hotdogs fresh from the grill, pulled pork, homemade mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, chips, and an assortment of cupcakes. The addition of live music from one of their bands, Godspeak, added such joy to the event. We are beyond thankful to Criss and everyone from Southport UMC for taking on this grand task so that Roberts Park members and guests could enjoy every moment of this historic occasion. Please join us in thanking our friends at Southport UMC!

One of our recent Soup’s On posts happened to be seen by a downtown neighbor at just the right moment. First, Lorraine donated 3 cases of SunnyD beverages. Then she asked about our biggest needs…we said toilet paper was one of the most requested items from our pantry. Yesterday she brought us 4 cases of individually wrapped toilet paper with the plan to continue supporting this need. What a blessing for our weekly Soup’s On guests! Thank you, Lorraine!

We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our wonderful partners at Castleton United Methodist Church. On September 13th, they prepared and served 143 delicious meals with genuine care. A special shout-out goes to Gordon Mendenhall, a Castleton UMC member who also represented his non-profit, A Bridge to Kenya, Inc., to provide 15 guests with eyeglasses and 20 others with sunglasses. The continued compassion and generosity shown by Castleton UMC truly enriches our community!

Thanks also to Roberts Park United Methodist Church members Larry, Michele, Carol, Julie, Spencer and Dick as well as a few of our guests who helped before, during, and after the meal to make sure every detail was covered.
