Meet Jeremy Daberkow, National Farm & Ranch Business Management Education Association (NFRBMEA) rep on the National Council for Agricultural Education.
Job Title: Farm Management Instructor for Minnesota West Community and Technical College
City/State: Sherburn, Minnesota
What career path led you to your current role? Growing up on a crop, hog, and dairy farm near Lakefield, MN, I developed a passion for agriculture which led me to the University of Minnesota to start a degree in plant science. Serving as a State FFA Officer helped me realize plants don’t talk, and people are way more engaging. This led me to a degree in Agricultural education. After 17 years in the high school classroom, a mentor suggested to try teaching adults in Farm Business Management.
What’s a book or podcast that you would recommend? All the Gallant Men by Donald Stratton and Ken GireÂ
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you? I competed in 3 National FFA CDEs.
What opportunities do you think today’s agriculture students should explore? Students should explore all facets of agriculture. I believe Mark twain was credited with the quote. “Never let school get in the way of your education.”
If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be? Spend time with your elders.
