Greetings from the Valley
Blessed Beltane to all
So, today we did our Beltane ritual, celebrated the Esbat of the Full Flower Man, an initiation and a dedication.
We started by casting a circle, raising power. By stating our magical names, immediately after this, it got hot and several brothers, myself included, started sweating. The power continued to rise as I took everyone on a meditational spell work; once I brought everyone back from their sacred space, we proceeded on to the initiation ceremony for brother Dragon. Congrats, Brother Dragon, on your first-degree initiation. Our dedication was next and went very well. I would like to announce Brother Thumper to the craft and may his path be smiled upon by the Lord and Lady. Brother Coyote then performed the Esbat assisted by Brother Dragon. At this point there was so much energy gathered that you could cut it with a butter knife. This was a very powerful and emotional circle. I want to thank all my brothers for being with me on this blessed day. May the Lord and Lady smile upon your path and guide you.
Your trickster brother,
Loki

An interesting Experience
Greetings from the Valley
During one of our esbats I had an experience that still stays with me to this day. We did a calling down the moon, and I had my poppet stand in for the high priests (due to the spirit that resides in it is female). Brother Coyote performed the ritual, and through my poppet, I spoke for the Goddess, I remember nothing except for brother coyote shaking me gently telling me he needed me to come back that he needed my help. I’m sure y’all are confused now, don’t worry at that time I was too. After I did the change of the goddess, the energy that was being put through my poppet backfired and allowed the goddesses to inhabit me, this is known as being ridden. With this happening it became a sensory overload, and I blacked out for over 30 minutes. During this time, I had made it to a chair and had set my poppet down next to me. Brother Coyote performed a guided meditation, and other brothers even spoke to me, but I heard none of this. I only found out after I came back to the mundane world.
During the time that I was being ridden I didn’t remember much, but in the days after it started coming back. Imagine this: Having all your senses dulled, but heightened at the same time feeling happy, sad, angry, jealous, and confused, while having what seemed like a high voltage current flowing through your body. Then hearing what seemed like a thousand whispers all at once, telling you different things but are unable to decipher what they are saying. On top of all that feeling multiple upon multiple entity’s inside you, possessing the same space. This was a powerful feeling and had me weakened and confused for several weeks. But in this happening I look at everything differently and have a whole new respect for the craft.
May the Lord and Lady smile upon your path and guide you,
Your trickster brother
Loki

You may ask what this holiday is.
Beltane is a traditional Gaelic festival celebrated on May 1st that marks the beginning of summer, falling halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice. It is a celebration of fertility, fire, and the blooming life of spring.
You may ask what the traditions they do for this holiday.
It is characterized by lighting bonfires, dancing around the maypole, and focusing on renewal and growth.
You may also ask what the aspects of each and what they mean.
• The Fires of Bel: Historically, two large bonfires were lit to honor the sun (sometimes the god Belenus). People and cattle would pass between these fires to purify themselves and ensure fertility for the coming season.
• Fertility and Nature: It honors the fertility of the Earth and the union of the Goddess and the God. It is a time for planting, growth, and creative energy.
• Traditions and Rituals: Common activities include dancing the maypole, creating flower crowns, visiting holy wells, and decorating homes with yellow flowers like rowan or hawthorn.
• Modern Observance: Today, Beltane is celebrated by many as one of the eight

The need for a volunteer is, I believe, important because of the structure they can bring to our meetings/ gatherings. Though we have shown we are able to stay organized and perform our duties with care, a volunteer also allows us to perform more of our rituals and services that we are unable to perform. They will also help us get materials and lead us in sacred circles at certain times of the year, such as sabbaths, and ebbits.

Most importantly, they will help provide much needed solidarity within and without our small community. This increases participation and enrollment with our group and helps current members feel a sense of wellbeing and comfort, and safety. These are things the right volunteer can bring to our circle.

May: Book Review
Title: A Witch’s Shadow Magick Compendium
Author: Digitalis, Raven
Publisher: Crossed Crow Books
ISBN: 979-8-9856281-4-2
If you truly want to develop a better understanding of dark paganism, or learn what it means to work with shadow, then this is your book!
So many people focus solely on the light and that leaves them imbalanced. Light is only half of the equation. What’s the other half? Shadow.
In this book, Raven takes the reader down a path of deep, personal introspection which results in a better understanding of self. Part of knowing one's self is to know one's shadow. To become a truly balanced person one must look into the darkness, that space where we hide our fears, shame, regrets, faults, failures, or worse. By working with the pain of our past, we become stronger and learn how to draw power from that under utilized domain.
But Raven doesn’t just stop at the shadow self. He also explains how shadow impacts everything, and how it exists in all things. Raven even addressed the topics of death magick and necromancy.
This is a book that I highly recommend. Our Circle here at the Valley actually uses sections out of it for teaching. We have used the exercises and meditations within circle with great success.
If you are a pagan prisoner, add this book to your “must read” list. If you know a pagan prisoner, send them a copy of it. This is a life changing book.
Blessed Be,
Coyote

Gypsy Traveler: Tarot 101
Starting at zero, or the infinite, what does the fool tell us about possibility? What potential can be seen in such a small picture? Well, let's start with the background and work forward, shall we.
Most decks will have mountains in the fool's background, as well as open sky. What feeling does this invoke for you? What is it that you relate to? For most, the mountains and hills represent the heights one must reach for goals, others the obstacles or challenges ahead. But remeber, these are in the distant, along with the open air and fields, so this stays as possibility, a path one MAY take.
The open skies is easier to understand. It is all the potential, with no shadows clouding your choice. As the sky is infinite so to are the choices we make yet only by looking out and into this expanse can we see this.
Now, most decks then have a youth standing on a cliff or edge of some sort. The fact that it is a youth matters not, for the youth is a symbol of something new, something starting fresh. In essence, it is the commitment to the first step. No matter where this card appears, it is saying this CAN be your first move.
As for the edge, most of us look back at what we’ve accomplished or overcome, but those who learn to master themselves look down from the mountains of what we were and see how close to our potential we have come. Look forward, look up, and look out from yourself so you can see the worlds beyond.
