Dear Crispus Attucks Alumni, Family and Friends,
The National Crispus Attucks Alumni Association invites you to join us for a very special celebration of Crispus Attucks history, basketball, perseverance and legacy as we honor legendary Crispus Attucks alumnus Bill Hampton and the release of his new memoir, GUARDED: A Memoir of Basketball and Breaking Barriers.
Sunday, August 23, 2026
1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Broadmoor Country Club
2155 Kessler Boulevard East Drive
Indianapolis, Indiana 46220
Bill Hampton, an Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer and starting guard for the historic 1955 Crispus Attucks Tigers State Championship Team, shares a remarkable story that extends far beyond the basketball court.
GUARDED chronicles Hampton’s journey from poverty and Jim Crow-era Kentucky to Indianapolis, where basketball became a source of opportunity, discipline and hope. His story follows his experiences with college basketball, racial discrimination, public service, entrepreneurship, fatherhood, faith and the choices he made throughout his life.
At the heart of the memoir is the story of a young man who helped make history when the 1955 Crispus Attucks Tigers became the first all-Black high school in the nation to win an open state championship and the first Indianapolis high school to capture the state basketball title.
Now, at age 91, Bill Hampton shares these memories so that future generations will understand where they came from, what was overcome and why this history must never be forgotten.
Join us for an afternoon of light refreshments, birthday cake and fellowship, meet Bill Hampton, and have the opportunity to receive a signed copy of his new memoir.
The official release of GUARDED on Amazon and Barnes & Noble is August 25, 2026.
Come celebrate 91 years of an extraordinary life—and a legacy that helped change Indiana basketball history.
We look forward to seeing you there!
