Meet Sheku! ✨✨✨

Sheku was born and raised in Kabal in the northern part of Sierra Leone. He is the first born of his mother and father. Sadly, Sheku’s father abandoned him and his mother on the day of his birth when he saw that Sheku was born with albinism. Sheku’s mother however, loves her son and does all she can to provide the best life she can for him! She and Sheku have both experienced lots of hardships and discrimination, but she is determined to do all she can to help her son.

Sheku is now in school and his mother wants to make sure he can continue his education and be able to have access to the things he needs to be able to manage his albinism. Sheku’s mother said she is thankful for any help she can receive as a single parent to help provide for Sheku.

Meet the EGWM person of the week Abdulai!

Abdulai was born in the Falaba district in the Nothern part of Sierra Leone. Abdulai was poisoned by his parents when he was born because of beliefs that they had been told about people with albinism not being able to die. Thankfully, Abdulai was rescued by an organization and his parents have been educated and now have a better understanding about his albinism.

People in Abdulai’s family and village are more educated now and want to help educate others about albinism and also want to provide Abdulai with the tools he needs to live a more comfortable life.
