Congress is attempting a cynical bait-and-switch with our veterans. The newly introduced Take Care of America’s Veterans Act (TCAVA) includes critical, long-overdue wins like the Major Richard Star Act—but Washington is trying to fund it by cutting $60 billion from newly disabled service members.

This omnibus trap pays for expanded benefits by permanently stripping disability ratings for sleep apnea and completely erasing standalone compensation for tinnitus. On top of that, it lays the groundwork for permanent VA privatization and public sector staff layoffs. Wounded and injured veterans are not a ledger entry to be balanced against.

The Union Veterans Council stands firmly with all veterans and VSO's in opposing these cruel offsets. We demand Congress split the bill and pass a CLEAN version of the Major Richard Star Act.

A union election should mark the start of bargaining, not a bad-faith waiting game.

Right now, the NLRB requires employers to bargain in good faith, but sets no deadline for the bargaining to begin. For years, companies have exploited this fact to drag out negotiations, stalling the process of securing a first contract by an average of 458 days.

The Faster Labor Contracts Act, which passed the House this week, closes that loophole by requiring employers to begin negotiations within 10 days of a successful union election!
