Joshua's Joy

Joshua's Joy Joshua's Joy is an NPO established in honor of the memory of my youngest son, Joshua, who lost his life due to mental illness. It's time to stop the stigma.

On July 14th, 2020, my baby boy, Joshua Christopher Hayes - beloved son, grandson, father, husband, brother, nephew, uncle and cousin - lost his battle with mental illness. Despite his struggles, Josh was a kind, gentle, loving and God-fearing young man. Like so many others affected by mental illness, Josh suffered in silence for fear of embarrassment and ridicule. Although he made every attempt t

o lead a normal life, he was constantly tormented by the ongoing battle in his brain. Plagued by paranoia, anxiety and depression, Josh fought each day for some semblance of normalcy. Tragically, his flawed reasoning led to a series of events that resulted in Josh being shot and killed instantly. Joshua was 22 years-old

He had just celebrated his Mom's birthday the day before he died. He was planning to marry his fiancee the day after he died. He had a five-year old daughter, and a 6 month-old son. Joshua is loved and terribly missed. The joy that eluded Joshua in this life was finally granted to him in the afterlife. Joshua's Joy Inc, is non-profit organization established for the purpose of stopping the stigma of mental illness. Like Joshua, thousands of people are affected by mental illness. Also like Joshua, many of those same people are embarrassed or ashamed of their condition; therefore, they never seek the help they need and, instead, suffer in silence. Joshua's Joy seeks to provide assistance and support for those suffering from mental illness as well as their families. Additionally, Joshua's Joy aspires to work with elected officials, community activists and school officials to create and implement legislation that will increase understanding of and provide screening for mental disorders. Our prayer is that those suffering from mental illness and their families will be able to share in Joshua's joy during their lifetimes. Don't suffer in silence. It's OK not to be OK. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

No parent gets it right all the time.

We all carry wounds…

and sometimes, without realizing it,
we pass pieces of that pain on.

Not because we meant to.

But because it’s what we knew.

The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s awareness.
It’s repair.

It’s taking responsibility when we’ve caused harm
and choosing to do better moving forward.

Loving someone with schizophrenia...

It can be challenging, that is for sure.

But your love, support & understanding means more than you will ever know.

proud of you is an understatement 🤍

people don’t realize the strength it takes to stay alive when your brain is giving you every reason not to.
remember that you don’t have to listen to every thought. our brains do not always have the best intention for us 🫂

you’re so loved and you matter. this is just a season of your life, not your whole life. those better days are on their way 🫶

Support Our Students – Wristband Initiative

Joshua’s Joy is launching the Support Our Students initiative to place a wristband in the hands of every junior high and high school student across Indianapolis and surrounding communities. These wristbands are more than just accessories—they are a daily reminder that students are not alone, that support is available, and that their lives matter.

Through this initiative, Joshua’s Joy aims to spark conversations around mental health, encourage peer support, and connect students to the help they need during life’s most challenging moments.

We can’t do this without you. Your donation will help us produce and distribute wristbands to thousands of students, spreading hope and building a stronger, more supportive community.

Donate today and be a part of making sure every student feels seen, supported, and valued. LINK IN BIO ✨

You don’t heal by finally saying the perfect thing
or explaining your pain in a way they can no longer deny.

Because healing was never supposed to depend on
their level of awareness…
or their willingness to take accountability.

Some people will hear you
and still choose not to understand.

Not because you didn’t explain it well enough.
But because understanding you would require them
to confront parts of themselves they’re not ready to face.

And that’s the part that hurts the most.

Healing begins when you stop trying to
be understood by someone committed to misunderstanding you…

and start giving yourself the validation
you were waiting to receive from them.

That’s where your power comes back.

If this resonates, comment “I choose to heal” 💕
or save this for the days you feel the urge to explain yourself again.

Love,
Anaishe Rose 🌹
