Plant Sale Update

The trailer is loaded and we’re ready for this weekend’s native plant sale.

I can’t bring everything, but I’ll have thousands of favorites including butterfly w**d, oxeye sunflower, wild bergamot, and plenty of others. All plants are still $3 each.

This will be our last sale for a while. Native plants are important work, but our primary mission is growing food for neighbors in need, and it’s time for us to turn our attention back to the fields.

The work of a farm is mostly faith. You plant something today believing it will become something useful tomorrow. Food, flowers, trees, and people all do better when they are rooted in a place.

These photos were taken this evening at Huddleston Farm. A trailer ready for the road and tens of thousands more plants growing behind it.

Thank you for your support and for helping put more roots in the ground.

Need recommendations. I need to hire someone with a tractor and box tiller to help get some cover crops down soon. I’ve made a few calls but no luck. Anybody know anybody?

🌱 A Quick Plant Sale Update

This weekend was supposed to be our final spring plant sale and our big native plant weekend.

Unfortunately, while loading up plants for the trip to Indianapolis, my trusty old Tundra decided it was time for a break. At 320,000 miles, the gas tank had other ideas and just fell off.

The truck is repairable. I’m fine. But thousands of native plants—including these New England asters—are still sitting at Huddleston Farm instead of making the trip to Common Ground at Faith this weekend.

We’ll still be open this weekend with the plants already on site, but many of the native species I planned to bring won’t be there yet.

The good news is that we’ll stay open one more weekend so these plants can get the chance they deserve to find good homes.

That old truck has hauled a lot over the years. By my rough estimate, well over half a million pounds of food headed to local food pantries across Indianapolis. At some point it stopped being just a truck and became part of the work itself. If it decided this was the day it needed a break, I’d say that’s already a job well done for our community.

It just picked a bad time to take a day off.

Thank you all for your patience and support.

Thanks to you all!

If mom has a green thumb, you may want to surprise her with some plants for the garden for Mother’s Day.

Final Plant Sale Logistics 🌱

📍 Common Ground at Faith
9031 East 16th Street
Indianapolis, IN 46229

📅 May 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 30th, and 31st
⏰ 8am–12pm

This is now our main farm site, just down the road from where many of you have come for years. Think less walking, better parking, and hopefully a whole lot less mud.

🌱 All plants are $3 each.

We wanted to make this sale more accessible and equitable for everyone. Gas prices are up. Food prices are up. Pretty much everything is up these days. Well… our plant prices are going down.

🌿 Native Plants
Some are ready to roll, some are just waking up, and some are still fully asleep. That’s part of working with natives.

That’s why the last weekend in May will be more native-focused, though you’re welcome to shop them during all sale weekends.

💵 Cash is greatly appreciated if possible. We’ve spent thousands over the years in card processing fees, and I’d much rather keep that money supporting the community right here at home.

This plant sale is pushing nearly fifteen years now, which honestly feels hard to believe.

Many of you I’ve known because of this sale for just about that same amount of time. We’ve swapped stories, successes, failures, varieties, weather complaints, and probably a thousand tomato conversations over the years.

That’s always been my favorite part of all this.

And if this is your first year coming out, welcome. We’re glad you’re here. Whether you’re planting your first tomato or your fiftieth, there’s a place for you in this strange and beautiful little plant sale community.

We all learn from each other. Every single year.

Thank you for supporting this sale and Indy Urban Acres mission not just this spring, but for all the years before it too — and for the years still to come.

For years, this has been the week! The week many of you have circled on the calendar. Mid-February was when we opened the website, you all browsed the varieties, and got a head start with presale orders.

This year, the Indy Urban Acres Plant Sale is changing in a simple but meaningful way.

We’re ending the online presale and the $100 early shopping minimum, and we’re lowering prices across the board. Plants will start at just $3. Most things cost more every year. We decided this was one place we could make things cost less.

The plant sale still fuels our mission of growing and donating fresh food to families who need it. We’re simply doing it in a way that invites more people to take part.

We’re doing this because growing food and caring for the land shouldn’t depend on how much money you can put down all at once. Dirt under your fingernails is the same, no matter the neighborhood. A chance to grow something should be too.

For years, many of you did exactly that. You showed up early, placed large orders, and helped this farm get on its feet. That steady support built the foundation we’re standing on, and we’re truly grateful. This change grows from that same spirit. Same mission. Wider gate.

So now, everyone shops together, and plants are priced so more neighbors can grow something at home. You can plant a few pots on the porch, a row behind the garage, or turn your whole backyard into something that hums and buzzes and feeds people.

Whether you’re planting your very first tomato or loading up like you’re preparing for the Victory Garden of 2026, you belong here.

Bring a box. Bring a friend. Make a few good decisions, and at least one slightly over-ambitious one.

Let’s get more plants in the ground and see what grows, not just in the soil, but in the spaces between us.
