There is an urgent request for teams to assist with rebuilds in Anchorage, AK. Can you help?
"The community of Tok lost 44 homes to a wildfire in August. Because of their location, winter is less than 1 ½ months away and regularly brings subzero temperatures, frequently below -50 degrees. While many of those who lost homes have found temporary housing through the winter, the community is coming together to build 16 tiny homes for individuals, couples, and three families who currently have no options. They are looking for volunteers who can help build them.
We are working with UMCOR to potentially support them by purchasing materials or tools. The window for help that is needed is very short - if someone can be there tomorrow, they would be thrilled. The second home is nearing completion, and their local volunteers are getting exhausted. They specifically noted that only one person is working on the spray foam insulation. This seals the heat in far better than Styrofoam or fiberglass but apparently takes a lot of effort and is a specialized skill. They seem concerned that the one person doing this will quickly exhaust both their energy and their time.
There are some options for housing, but because of the limited resources of the community and the need to be nimble, teams of 10 or less would be best. Teams will be able to prepare meals or meals will be provided by the community. Teams will need to bring tools.
If you can help, please contact Dan Wilcox."
