Organization Purpose:
Education is our primary purpose; including but not limited to, “Parenting to change a Nation,” money management training, which includes including limiting unbudgeted spending, and tracking spending), long term and short term investment goals, Saving, including saving and checking accounts, cleaning up their credit, obtaining and managing credit cards, building an emergency
savings account, creating college funds, expense tracking, and the importance of filing taxes, entrepreneurship, creative ideas and witty inventions, and preparing for retirement. Our workability training program includes, recruitment, assessment, counseling, preemployment skills training, vocational training, and other assistance with transition to a quality adult life. Our Education programs will utilize the online and in-person programs available through the Salvation Army, and Wayne Township Adult Education. We have reached out to Gina Woodward: Homeless Education Specialist, and The Indiana Department of Education to coordinate a cohesive plan including classes and workshops to educate the homeless in our program. We as an organization will not try to “Reinvent the wheel” when it comes to reducing homelessness in Indianapolis. We will observe, collaborate with, and put into practice some of the strategies by several counties with organizations who have successfully reduced homelessness in their communities, and collaborate with other organizations in our county who are working on or seeking to reduce homelessness in their communities as well, and strategize together for a permanent solution. We are also working to partner with HUD and IHCDA to eliminate homelessness in Indianapolis permanently. Better educated people are more likely to make good decisions, avoid risky behavior, and lead healthier, less-stressful lives
