Mycocosms is a piece that features sustainable myco-acoustic panels and sound synthesized from various data generated from these panels. Dr. Timothy Hsu, IUPUI music tech professor and Jonathan Dessi-Olive (UNCC) have developed mycelium-based acoustic absorbers and diffusers as a way to investigate the use of sustainable materials in acoustics and design. This piece is a musical exploration of these panels, to be presented on Saturday April 22 on earthdayartmodel.org.

Butler University music composition professor will present the world premiere of his work "Sturmtrommel Zwei" This Saturday live at IUPUI at the Earth Day Art Model Festival. This piece is one of a few of mine composed as a 'knee-jerk reaction' to how humans use and abuse our planet, especially how mining often pulls valuable minerals and ore from the ground, but often in violent and disfiguring ways. https://earthdayartmodel.org

IUPUI Music Tech Ph.D. student Tommaso Rosati will present his work "Roqia, 2 y.o.", for percussion in water and live electronics this coming Friday evening on Earth Day Art Model Festival. Roqia, 2 y.o. is a work about how percussion resonates in and out of the water, interacting with live electronics and telling the tragic story of a group of people who lost their lives trying to reach the shores of Europe, 50 meters from the shore. Joining Tommaso Rosati in the performance are percussionist Karen Cole and Ian Mast.

First Annual Earth Day Art Model

Earth Day Art Model is a global telematic arts event held in recognition of International Earth Day, celebrating its fiftieth year. Telematic art synthesizes mediums such as live music, dance, drama and visual arts with Internet-based interactive media and performance content. The festival will host and stream performances and media by musicians, artists, writers, and others. The theme, “Living with the Earth” seeks to highlight current artistic perspectives, ranging from anecdotal sensory observations to the integration of scientific data in the form of remote sensing, climate models, and field recordings. Performers will connect via the Internet through the Tavel Center at IUPUI in Indianapolis, where works will be streamed over a 24 hour period beginning at midnight Universal Time Code (UTC). COVID-19 Pandemic The festival originally planned for a combination of live telematic performances and fixed media works, but in the wake of the COVID-19 global crisis, most of the live, public concerts across the world had to be cancelled. As a result, the festival established a new segment, “Music in Place”. This entails live performances over the internet using the simple format of presenting from one’s shelter in place over Zoom videoconferencing software. As seen daily in social media, this style of delivery is a true reflection of what musicians and others are currently harnessing in order to express themselves. Check back to this here for updates, including times and streaming url's for performance and other events.
