Linda and Steve Patterson from San Mateo, California in 1968. Their Vietnam War story of loss, love and support of 1-327th Inf, especially ABU company, connected them inextricably with the Desert Storm soldiers of 1-327th. An epic story.💪

TO Who it may concern:

My name is Linda Patterson, I lead a national program which began during the Vietnam War. Which has stirred my emotions after reading an article sent to my e-mail address this morning notification of a tv program called VIETNAM
Vietnam War film ignites conversation among veterans
My life commitment work certainly stems from my personal experience concerning that War after losing my kid brother who left me with a mission supporting the men he fought with in the elite unit of the 101st Airborne Division now “Air Assault”. His last letter before he was KIA on March 24, 1968 reached through me requesting the City of San Mateo’ California “Adopt his infantry Army Unit. 130 hard core Soldiers. I was sent to Vietnam by his adopted city, spending two weeks at the northern base 101st Camp Eagle, during Christmas 1968 waiting for my brother’s unit to come in from the Jungle to meet me and receive their special gift.

Countless stories have been written about the way Vietnam veterans were treated when they came home but not this unit. San Mateo welcome them for 3 days planned old fashion “WELCOME HOME FROM WAR”.

I could go on and on about our Vietnam Veterans story but suggestion you look up my website of what ONE 19 year old Soldier accomplished with his last letter for countless Veterans to include active troops for over 57 years of support. ALL VIETNAM VETERANS, ONE CITY REMEMBERS! THE WELCOME HOME FOR AN ENTIRE UNIT "A COMPANY" 1ST BATTALION, 327 TH INFANTRY 1ST BRIGADE, 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION ON JANUARY 22-24, 1972., MARCHING DOWN THE STREETS OF SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA TO AMERICANS CHEERING. TEARS OF JOY RECOGNIZING THEIR ADOPT SONS. AMONG THESE HEROES' ONE WAS NOT WITH THEM, SGT JOE ARTAVIA WHO IN HIS LAST LETTER TO THE CITY ASKED THAT THEY "ADOPT HIS UNIT BROTHERS" . SAN MATEO ANSWERED ON MARCH 4, 1968, SGT ARTAVIA WAS KIA ON MARCH 24TH. REST ASSURED AMERICA, ONE CITY HONORED OUR (THEIR) WARRIORS. LINDA PATTERSON, SISTER TO SGT JOE ARTAVIA. ASA drives on: Looking for significant "Ways & Means" to Support our Troops, Marines, Navy & Airmen = Our Military! Reflecting back digging through files & files dated back to 1991 Desert Storm, ASA heard from Senators, Congressmen and City Government Leaders. They came to us asking to "Adopt a Unit, Ship, etc." Our support group reached many. In today's world we NEED THEM BACK. Our MILITARY NEEDS THEM BACK.
