Common Heart

Common Heart www.commonHeart.org Common Heart is a grassroots movement in Union County, NC that started in 2006. Who are we?
(1)

Our mission is to foster individual and community engagement to feed hungry families and empower those in poverty, creating a sustainable community where all can thrive. What started as four friends creating a small revolution of kindness has now grown to more than 4,000 friends serving our neighbors each month! Over the years, the core of who we are has remained the same: We seek to create a smal

l revolution of kindness delivering groceries and hope, expanding resources and horizons, and developing empowering and life-changing friendships. The goal: eradicating food insecurity and eliminating generational poverty. We are friends: Just common folks from differing backgrounds and life experiences desiring to serve and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. We are a community: A community of friends, volunteers, donors, supporters, businesses, community organizations, and faith communities hoping to raise the levels of love, compassion and service to others in our neighborhoods, city, nation and world. We are Common Heart: A small 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization promoting individual and community action, serving people without regard to race, creed, color, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, country of origin, legal status, socio-economic class, political affiliations or anything else that divides people. We believe that God is an “equal opportunity lover” of human-kind.

We’re thrilled to introduce a new addition to the Common Heart team - Detrina Little, Economic Empowerment Director.

Detrina comes to us with more than 15 years of experience leading Bridges Out of Poverty and Getting Ahead programming, first as Director of Family Support at YMCA of Greater Charlotte and most recently through the Meck Success Program where she served for three years.

She truly has a heart for service and is passionate about helping people recognize their strengths, overcome barriers, and move confidently toward their goals.

“I believe people thrive when they feel seen, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their future,” she said. “My mission is to not only help people succeed but to help them believe they can.”

This photo captures one word perfectly: community. Every heart on the wall represents a person, local business, or church that gave during last month’s Kickstart Kindness campaign!

It’s a beautiful reminder that when we give what we can, BIG things happen! Together, 263 donors raised almost $120,000 to provide food and life-changing empowerment programs for families in our community.

Families are being fed and finding hope because of the kindness and generosity of this amazing community. Donate.CommonHeart.org

This is what hard work & determination looks like!

These Getting Ahead graduates just started our Money & Me workshop where they'll learn skills like budgeting, identifying needs vs. wants, become a smart shopper, change a money-related habit... and more!!

This workshop is another step on their journeys to stability and earning a $500 deposit into a savings account in our Emergency Savings Incentive Plan.

Your donations make moments like this possible! Donate.CommonHeart.org

At a food pantry, when one of your freezers goes down it's a big deal! On this we want to thank our new friends at SmartFix Appliance Repair Charlotte Cornelius Mooresville for their help to get the freezer running again!

Ryan Kolbe, our Pantry Network Director, says they were "helpful, polite & quick" and we're so grateful! Thanks for your passion to help our neighbors facing food insecurity!
