The Civitan in Indian Shores is a hidden paradise beyond compare. It’s the perfect size for a beach wedding for up to 150 guests and smaller events.

It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that I must inform you that due to the storm surge from Hurricane Helene, the Civitan Beach House is a total loss. The Civitan Beach House was first constructed in 1937 and had seen its share of storms over its 87 years. This is one it just could not survive. The devastation up and down Gulf Blvd is unbelievable.

We recently made upgrades to our Air Conditioning at the Beach House. We installed a new central air system with a new air handler. We also installed a 36k BTU wall mounted air conditioner/heat pump. These upgrades were much needed to increase the comfort during events. We will have new insulation installed on June 28th. Thank you for your patience as we worked through this issue.

Today we had a member clean up day at the Civitan Beach House. Thank you to everyone that took time out of their days to give back to the Club. We cleaned out flower beds, swept sand from the sidewalks, cleaned ceiling fans, painted the front porch, doors and windows, and cleaned out the inside and outside storage areas.

The St. Petersburg Civitan Club recently held its 43rd Annual Four Chaplains Award ceremony. This year's recipient was Rabbi Philip Weintraub of Congregation B'nai Israel of St. Petersburg. He is also a Chaplain at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He prides himself on his relationships working across generations. Weintraub’s professional summary states he “inspires communities to greater participation, to create deep connections, and discover the holiness in life.”

The PARC Challenge Club held a Halloween Party on 10/18/23. PARC is one of the organizations we support with funding and volunteer support. A few key St. Petersburg Civitan Club members lend their time and support to help the PARC Challenge Club members with their membership duties in Civitan.

Members and guest celebrated Labor Day at the Civitan Beach House yesterday. It was a beautiful day on the beach and time well spent among everyone.

Members and our Event Coordinator Debbie Roberts spent a few hours today shoveling and picking up trash around the Civitan Beach House. Thank you so much for all that came out. Valerie Sewell, Tom Muscarella, Jeanne Davison, Karen Galinowski, Bonnie Ruth were a huge help. I could not have done it alone.

Thanks also to Bob O’Neil who takes care of purchasing new flags as well as raising and lowering as needed.

Hurricane Idalia just went through Pinellas County a few days ago. The Beach House was untouched. The outside sand area has some significant damage. We will be working tomorrow to shovel and level sand and pickup debris. The dunes on the beach suffered the most damage with about 25-30% of it gone.

On Sunday 4/16/23 our Foundation Board of Directors gave their yearly update on the status of projects, rentals, history and financial health of the Foundation. Pete Meydag-President, MaryAnn Fisher-Secretary, Ron Wanek-Treasurer and Steve Eckelbarger-Director all gave updates. Lauren Heckert also gave an update on the venue rentals over the years. Amy Shore the Marketing and Development Director for the R'Club of the Louise Graham Regeneration Center gave a talk on the activities of the Center and how they integrate the lives of those they serve into the mainstream of their community.

57 Members and guests recently gathered for a St. Patrick's Day celebration at the Beach House. There was lots of good food, music and games. Pete Meydag won the Best Dressed contest and we celebrated his birthday as well. If you are interested in becoming a member reach out to me at [email protected] for some information.
