Adopt-A-Highway

On Collins Road, the Queensbridge Community has, since 2017, had a contract with the SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to pick up trash along most of Collins Rd. four times per year. Not a difficult job. On our two miles, we get at most one or two bags of trash each time we go out.

Indian Land Green itself has also adopted a section of Rt. 521, which under the direction of Clare McConaughay, keeps clean every month.

Most of the roads in Indian Land are state roads, and as such, they can be adopted. If you or your community would like to begin such a program, contact our local SCDOT representative, Julie Deese, at [email protected]. Further information about ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY can also be found on the SCDOT website.

Second Saturday Community Cleanup ... Feb. 8, 2025
Nine litter warrior volunteers picked up 25 bags and lots of big pieces of plastic, car parts , posts , cardboard , a battered cooler , and sofa cushion . We focused on Marvin Road south on Hwy 521 . We also special targeted Possum Hollow Road from Restoration Church to Hwy 521 and filled 8 bags of mostly alcoholic drink cans and bottles just in that short space . Thanks to William , Steve , Lucas, Jan , Jamal , Joan , and special thanks to Luke and Clare for working and filling their vehicles to unload at the convenience site . We urge you to pick up litter on your street and business / church frontage and report the totals bags to us . Sadly we found a beautiful hawk that had been killed , so Joan reverently placed it away from the road.
Save the dates :
March 8: Second Saturday cleanup on Hwy 521
March 29: County wide litter cleanup through Keep Lancaster County Beautiful , where Indian Land will focus on Highway 160 . We’ll need your help !

A thank you to Indian Land Green's Elizabeth Evans for acquiring a $10,000 grant from Palmetto Pride for the mowing and trash pick-up of the Rt 521 median between Rt. 160 and Jenkins Dr. This work will be done monthly from April through August.

Great job, Elizabeth for keeping Indian Land nice and neat this Spring and Summer!
