Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his prayer intention for October 2026 to mental health ministry, inviting the Church to become a place of welcome and hope for those who suffer.

In the accompanying “Pray with the Pope” video, the Holy Father holds an image of St. Dymphna, patroness of those with mental illness, and addresses God as the One who knows “the silent wounds that sometimes no one sees.” He prays: “Today we bring before you our brothers and sisters who struggle with challenges to their mental health, who suffer in solitude with anxiety, depression, or any other mental illness.”

Pope Leo asks forgiveness for the times Christians have looked away or contributed to stigma. He asks that the Church become “a safe space where everyone has a place—a community that accompanies and never excludes, that listens without judging and draws near without fear.”

He also remembers caregivers, family members, and professionals, asking God to strengthen them. The prayer concludes: “Send your Spirit upon us, that we may learn to welcome and integrate care for mental health into the life and ministry of our communities and of the whole Church, and thus become a living sign of your mercy, which never abandons and always restores.”

With more than a billion people worldwide living with mental disorders, the Pope’s intention calls the entire Church to greater compassion and practical care.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

For families who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant, grief can be difficult to put into words. A loss may happen before others even knew you were expecting, but that doesn’t make the love, the memories, or the grief any less real.

This month, we remember the babies who are deeply loved and dearly missed, and we hold space for the parents, siblings, grandparents, and families carrying their loss.

Join us for our Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day Wave of Light Ceremony as we come together to remember, honor, and light a candle in memory of the little ones who will always be part of our families.

Children ages 8–17 are invited to join us for Hope in Print: Children’s Art Therapy Workshop on Saturday, October 10!

Guided by Art Therapy Provider Elise Radzialowski, participants will explore creativity and self-expression through hands-on printmaking. Each child will carve their own printmaking block and create unique artwork inspired by “Hope Amidst Grief.” No prior art experience is needed—just come ready to create and explore.

These grants will support organizations working to prevent addiction, save lives, expand access to treatment, strengthen recovery supports, and help communities address the lasting effects of the opioid epidemic.

With approximately $45 million being made available statewide through Regional Grant Cycle 2, these awards build on our inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects across the state.
