We’ve got some amazing artistry coming to Lavender in September! Our Sunday Sessions are open to the public and free to attend. Come join a community of artists who love you just the way you are!

Perspectives: Artist Talks are from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and include a snack potluck! You can meet the artists, be a part of the conversation and connect with other artists and allies in your community!

Meet Julie Bennett-Hume, a KC local singer/songwriter/multi instrumentalists/and German language aficionado. Watch as she brings her love of language and culture into her songwriting going from Delta blues to Cajun tavern crooning to east European smack talking cabaret. Julie shared her love for taking music back to its roots and for a penchant of leading men to their demise. Julie is also the executive director of the Shetalkwha? program on KKFI 90.9 FM which is program examining the issues facing women in politics and culture.

This is Julie‘s last performance in Kansas City as she is relocating to the East Coast at the end of the month and she will be greatly missed. Julie has curated a scene of compassion for the arts, promoting women in the arts and politics and standing up for civil rights at home and abroad. We have no doubt she will continue to push back against the system that binds us and join in the choir of those who rage against the machine together.

This Sunday during Perspectives, we’ll take a moment to raise a glass and celebrate Dolly’s life, her music, and the impact she left on this world.

We invited multidisciplinary artist Lula Renee Edwards Smith to come and share her passion of fiber art, clay sculpture, and basket weaving. Lula specializes in leaving “evidence of existence” through connection, memory, and art.

To make this artist talk even more special, we’ve invited award winning singer/ songwriter Jack Summers to share his storytelling acclaim in his magical and musical way of connecting to people through song.

If you’ve been searching for a community, who likes you just the way you are, we’ve been looking for you. Join us this Sunday at 2 PM for a free event that is open to the public and welcome to all.
