Independence Ethnic Council - IEC The Independence Ethnic Council works to create Northwest Independence as a thriving multi-cultural Northwest Independence, Missouri is a changing community.

In recent years, we have grown to be a vibrant neighborhood with young families from around the world. Seeking to listen to our neighbors and their ideas and concerns, we advocate for our neighbors. We build upon each other's ideas. And, together, we will share our values of family and community. We envision our community as a thriving multi-cultural neighborhood supporting our families with busin

esses, recreation and sports, cultural education, neighborhood involvement, and a strong sense of connectedness. Our neighborhood is the multi-cultural center of our City.

It's been a minute! But the food, music, and community will be there. Hope you are too.

Block party coming up this Saturday! EVERYONE is invited! Bring your friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents, long-lost cousins, neighbors, and new friend from the grocery store for this day to celebrate our community! There will be BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, pig roast, live music, family games, and more. Join us July 30 from 3-6pm at BlendWell!

Santa will be back! Come see Santa (for free) at our neighborhood Christmas Party. This Saturday (December 18) from 9am-11am at BlendWell Community Cafe (10725 US 24 Highway). Do you remember the old bank building that we used to have community cookouts at? It's there.

May was Asian American Pacific Islander month. Our community has a large community of Pacific Islanders. One of our founding board members, Iefata Sa'oleititi and his family, have been important part of our work in Independence. Thank you to all the Pacific Islanders in Independence for the beauty, the culture, the food and the love that you bring to our community. Thank you to the City of Independence for making this video to honor our community. (Just a note, the Sa'oleititi family is from Western Samoa.)
