We are so proud of the work Elena Perez is doing to get our new office opened in San Pedro Sula. The office has come a long way from when it was just an idea discussed with the Department of Education authorities of San Pedro Sula back in April. Elena has already been representing Friends United in different ways, but especially at a conference this week of those organizations who work to better education in Honduras Bravo, Elena! So excited to see you and the office in July!

Elena Pérez, our newest office manager, is cleaning, repairing, and preparing to paint our new Amigos Unidos Office for San Pedro Sula. I know she is excited to start working with teachers from that office, but she cannot be more excited than we are.!!
There is no buildings and grounds staff to prepare the rooms and get them cleaned and painted and repaired. This is done by the teacher. Bravo Elena and helpers!

Many thanks go to Rhonda Presler for arranging for us to pick up clothing left after South Crysler Restoration Branch had their annual garage sale today. We filled about 50 trash bags with clothing for our annual Red Racks clothing fundraiser. It helped the church and helped us too! Thanks go to: Rhonda, Bennie Eubanks, Kirk Arnold, and Josh Baker for their muscles and trucks and car to load clothing and then unload it at the storage facility. Let us know if you do spring cleaning and need us to haul away clothing for you!

Bravo to La Ceiba Amigos Unidos team of Jenny Cruz and Dilcia Gomez! A training workshop on pedagogical strategies was held today for community educators, in coordination with the organization Amigos Unidos. These educators are not actually teachers, but are paid by their city to teach pre K-kindergartners, where there is no actual kindergarten established by the government. . They are paid to do this by their city.

The training was given by the technical team of Amigos Unidos, providing innovative and practical tools that strengthen teaching competencies and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching-learning processes. The focus was on practical and effective strategies for teaching both math and literacy skills to little ones.

While in Tela, Atlántida Honduras, it was a pleasure to see Suyapa Urbina, Amigos Unidos exbecaria and former manager of our Tela office. She is enjoying retirement and we wanted to recognize and officially congratulate her on her retirement. She is an exbecaria who not only has worked with teachers in our office, but found and helped train our newest office manager there, Kimberly Molina. She informed us that she plans to continue working with teachers in a small town near Tela called Olanchito. We appreciate her commitment. It was a pleasure to recognize her retirement with this blanket and certificate and treat her to breakfast.

Gracias! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Final update to this post. Mom is now in room 1081at NKC Hospital (Pavillion side)...On the road to recovery!

UPDATE 1/13/26
It has been an emotional journey, but we are happy to say mom is doing really well this morning! We really thought we were going to lose her Sunday night, but mom is doing her best to heal and overcome this. It is a lot on a 90 year old lady, but she is a trooper. She is still in the ICU at NKC Hospital, but there is a chance she will be moved out soon. Dad is doing good through this, but it is wearing him out. We are making him stay home and rest today. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support. It is appreciated.

UPDATE ON MOM.. Charlotte Reece Ruoff . She is out of surgery. It was a long surgery. She had multiple clots in both legs. There was a risk she could lose a leg but prayers were answered! Thank you to everyone that reached out and/or prayed. It was and still is appreciated. She is now in the ICU for close monitoring.

prayers would be appreciated for my mom. she is headed to surgery for clot in groin and leg.

Thank you to all our supporters—in attendance at the banquet last night or from afar! Either way, with everyone’s help, it was a successful night. We are ready for another year of working with teachers in Honduras to help them with new and creative strategies to teach their little ones! Your support, from buying nuts to bidding in the silent auction to donating from home, it all supports our work for year 39 in Honduras. Gracias a todos!
