Shep's Place Senior Dog Sanctuary At Shep's Place, we find old dogs who have gone unadopted in KC shelters, and give them a home.

Shep's Place is a home for abandoned senior dogs from the KC area, who have gone unadopted in shelters or rescues. We are a 501c3 charitable organization staffed entirely by volunteers. Our facility is a refurbished house in Independence, MO, where the dogs roam freely.

Say hello to JoJo, our newest resident! JoJo is a 9-year-old hound mix from Independence Animal Services. Her owner passed away recently. She is a very well-behaved, affectionate girl, who gets along well with other dogs and loves treats. Welcome aboard, JoJo!

Princess isnโ€™t exactly a fan of the โ€œroommate situationโ€ with all the other dogs at Shepโ€™s Place. Letโ€™s just say sheโ€™d prefer a home where she doesnโ€™t have to share the kingdom. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yesterday we were on the Independence Square for the eighth annual Doggie Date Night, to benefit Shepโ€™s Place. Brookside Barkery & Bath donated three-course gourmet meals for the dogs, including shrimp cocktail, salmon filets, and ice cream from Mixed Mutt & Company! The humans had great food from Courthouse Exchange, Ophelia's Restaurant & Inn, and Cafe Verona. An elegant if humid dinner was had by all! A huge thanks to the Shepโ€™s volunteers who served the dogs, and to Cindi and Jeff Rogers of The Independence Square Mercants Organization for hosting the event.

This is Chance. He decided for his 10th birthday that he would ask for donations for Shep's Place and a couple other small rescues instead of gifts for him. His mom brought him and all of these donations last night. He had a tour of Shep's Place and met Duke, Princess and Sheba. He said before he left that when he is grown up, he would like to work at a rescue like Shep's. We would be lucky to have him! Thank you Chance!

After 7 months at Shepโ€™s, our handsome man Major has found his home. He has two great parents and a dog brother, Odin. Itโ€™s hard to imagine our living room without him, but heโ€™s clearly settling into his new couch. Way to go, Major!

*Grand Old Duke*
Yesterday, this good old boy, Duke, joined the pack at Shepโ€™s. He is a 9-year-old coonhound / lab mix who spent the last 14 months at the Plattsburg Pound Puppies facility. He loves people, and gets along well with other dogs. And he knows Sit, Shake, and Down! Welcome, Duke!
