Hello my name is Aaron Gaddis, and I am part of GCKC. GC was formed in 2009 by the merger of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri and Edgewood Children's Center. The goal was to create something new in the communities we serve, to help those struggling with difficult circumstances, and to be a partner in our communities to provide that resource. With campuses, counseling centers, home and community based
services statewide, GC’s footprint reaches across Missouri, the Midwest and beyond. This year, we're on track to impact the lives of more than 30,000 children, individuals and family members. I am recruiting people who are interested in being therapeutic foster parents. What does a therapeutic foster home look like? Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) caters to the physical, emotional and social needs of children and youths in a supportive family setting until the natural family can be reunited or a permanent placement through adoption can be arranged. The foster household is viewed as the primary treatment setting, and the foster parent(s) are trained and supported to implement the goals outlined in the child’s treatment plan. These goals include:
-community integration
-meeting the medical needs of the children
-eliminating inappropriate behaviors
-supporting the child's educational needs
These goals are carried out under the direction of a treatment team assigned to each child. The team is made up of the foster parent(s), therapeutic case manager, individual treatment aide, the child and his/her family, the state social worker and other community resource professionals for the child. Support from all of the team members allows the child to benefit from a home environment and community-based setting while receiving intensive treatment and clinical services. You can reach me at 816-833-6284 if you have any questions or interest in hearing more or becoming a foster parent.
