~LEAD INDEPENDENCE UPDATE~
LEAD Independence Explores Economic Development, Chamber & Industry

Last Thursday, the LEAD Independence class spent the day diving into the world of collaboration, community growth, and local industry. The morning kicked off with an engaging leadership development session from Mason Duchatschek, focusing on teamwork and collaboration. Participants then heard from Kris Zerr about the Chamber’s history and mission and from Jarvis Sackman with the Independence Economic Development Partnership, who shared insights on the partnership and the city’s growth.

The class continued their day at the Ennovation Center, where Executive Director Danielle Dupree shared how the center supports entrepreneurs and innovation in Independence.

After a delicious lunch at the Courthouse Exchange on the Historic Independence Square where they heard from Jeff Rogers with Independence Square Association and Cindy McClain, business owner, the group wrapped up their day with a fascinating tour of the Burd and Fletcher plant—seeing industry in action right here in our community!

LEAD Independence Class of 2026 Kicks Off Their Journey!

The LEADers are off and running! The Class of 2026 spent their very first day diving into discovery, connection, and teamwork.

The day began with an exploration of True Colors personality styles, where participants uncovered what makes them tick and how their “color” influences the way they communicate, solve problems, and collaborate. The activity sparked lively conversations and helped everyone see the unique value each style brings to the team.

From there, the class got an inside look at the LEAD Independence program, formed their teams, and jumped right into action with dynamic team-building activities led by the incredible Better Humans program.

The energy was high, the connections were instant, and it’s clear this group is ready to LEAD the way into an exciting year ahead!

What a day at the May Membership Luncheon and L.E.A.D. Independence Graduation last week. We celebrated the Independence LEAD Class of 2025, heard inspiring words from presenting sponsor Ron Finke with Stewardship Capital, Jeff Benson class representative, and instructor Patrick Farrell. We saw firsthand how this class raised the bar.

We also shared a heartfelt farewell to Chamber President Tom Lesnak as he heads into retirement after 18 years of service. He was honored with a framed photo of the Independence Uptown Market and a card filled with messages from fellow Chamber members.

L.E.A.D. Wraps Up Non-Profit Day & Prepares for Graduation

Our Independence L.E.A.D. class recently wrapped up a powerful and purpose-driven day centered around the theme of “Non-Profit Day”. The day was packed with inspiration, local impact, and leadership lessons, it was a celebration of the organizations that make our community stronger.

The morning started with coffee and conversation at BlendWell Community Cafe, setting the tone for a day of connection. Lynne Baker kicked things off with an energizing leadership session that got everyone thinking big.

Then the class heard from Hope House, whose mission to support survivors of domestic violence reminded us what compassion in action looks like.

The Community Services League shared how they uplift lives daily, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of BlendWell and a great Q&A session.

A hearty BBQ lunch at A Little BBQ Joint brought everyone together to refuel and reflect.

After lunch they headed to Independence Animal Services, participants got a heartwarming look at the care provided to our city’s animals and even rolled up their sleeves to make dog treats!

The day wrapped up at Hereford House with some well-deserved happy hour cheers and meaningful conversations.

Last Friday (Dec. 1st), the Independence LEAD Alumni indulged in a delicious luncheon at Carrabba's Italian Grill. The gathering was filled with camaraderie as alum's caught up with each other and even got the chance to meet the L.E.A.D. Class of 2024. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the random door prizes that left everyone with beaming smiles. It's always a pleasure to see our Chamber members reconnect in such a festive manner!
