This year's project was an American Felling Axe. Settlers initially used European-style axes, which were less suited for felling large trees. These axes had long bits and were designed for smaller tasks and European forests. However, settlers soon realized the need to adapt the tool for the vast and dense American forests. This adaptation led to the development of a heavier, more efficient axe with a short, broad bit and a long, strong handle.

We cant wait to see what's in store for next year! Interested in learning more about the FIERF Forging Competition, check out www.fierf.org.

Forging is everywhere — and Forging Day on October 9 is our chance to show it.

FIA is encouraging member companies to open their doors, tell their stories and highlight the people, technology and careers that power the forging industry.

Forging Day is a great opportunity to connect with students, educators, policymakers and your local community while showcasing the essential role forgings play in transportation, defense, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and more.

Whether you host a plant tour, career day, classroom visit, employee spotlight or social media campaign, your participation helps raise awareness of the forging industry and inspire the next generation of manufacturing talent.

Let’s make forging visible.

Investing in the future of forging starts with investing in the next generation.

The Forging Foundation — FIERF — helps build our industry’s future workforce by promoting careers in forging, awarding scholarships, supporting student engagement, sharing employment opportunities, and encouraging participation in industry research and projects.

Companies that support FIERF are helping strengthen the talent pipeline our industry depends on — from students discovering forging for the first time to future engineers, metallurgists, technicians, and leaders preparing to enter the workforce.

We invite forging industry companies, suppliers, foundations and individuals to consider making a contribution to FIERF and joining the Honor Roll of Contributors. Recognition levels include Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Anvil Society memberships, with multi-year giving opportunities beginning at $2,500 annually.

Your support helps forge what’s next.

Forging starts with curiosity — and sometimes, with a children’s book.

The Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (FIERF) created the Forging with Freddy book series to help introduce kids to the world of forging in a fun, approachable and imaginative way. Through colorful storytelling, Freddy helps young readers discover how forged parts are made, where they show up in everyday life, and why manufacturing matters.

These books are a great resource for families, schools, community events and anyone looking to spark early interest in STEM, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing.

Even better, proceeds support FIERF’s mission to strengthen the future workforce of the forging industry through education, scholarships and student engagement.

Help inspire the next generation of makers, engineers and problem-solvers.
