Members of the Independence Morning Rotary group gathered Tuesday for a service project to support HappyBottoms. HappyBottoms has been providing diapers to families in the KC community since 2009. Their mission is: To collaborate with the community to empower, connect and impact families by alleviating diaper need.
Nearly 1 in 2 families with young children do not have enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry and healthy. HappyBottoms coverins the amount of diapers a family is short each month, known as the diaper gap, in the Kansas City Metro Area. The Rotary group counted, bundled, wrapped and packed around 5,000 diapers for distribution. It was a fun and meaningful project.

Rotarians Matt Flax, Sonci Bleckinger, and Sue Gochis teamed up as judges for the recent Job Olympics event for high school students in special education programs. This annual gathering provides these students with the chance to participate in real world job skills competitions. The competitions match skills needed in the workplace. Sue and Matt worked at the movie theatre skills area and Sonci manned the table setting area. There was even a continuous dance party for the students in the main room throughout the event that kept the energy going. It was truly an inspiring and fun-filled day!

The Eastern Independence Rotary Club “laced up” for a great cause during their recent support of the Shoes for Orphan Souls drive. Since its inception in 1999, Shoes for Orphan Souls has been dedicated to providing new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children across the United States and in more than 80 countries worldwide. Sonci Bleckinger and Sue Gochis served as the foot patrol and delivered the club’s “sole-nami” of shoes to the collection site. Thanks to all who donated!

Thanks to Dragonfly MSP for the presentation this morning regarding cyber security for business. Three tips to take away are to never click remember me when logging into websites, don’t install anything without your IT approval, and avoid working on sensitive information over public Wi-Fi.
