Hillsville 4th of July Parade
CELEBRATING CARROLL WOMEN GET THE VOTE 1920-2020 + 1
Who: Sponsored by the Carroll County Virginia Historical Society
What: A float with 101 people walking and riding – YOU ARE NEEDED
Wear white, a fancy hat, and a sash. Men are welcome. Add a bow tie in place of a fancy hat.
You can walk or ride on the float. Sashes are available for $2.00 at the Historical Society located at the
Old Court House in Hillsville. Funds will be used to pay for float materials
Come by Tuesday – Friday – 11-1:30 to get a sash.
When: Gather on the 4th at 3:30. Parade starts at 4pm. Parade ends at the VFW.
Where: Meet in the Carroll County Court House parking lot at the float. It will be easy to find.
Look for banners of Gold, white, purple.
Why: To honor the women who registered and voted in the 1920 election. Stop by the Old Court
House and look for family names on the voter register. The Historical Society has a copy of the
register. Thank you Gerald Goad, Clerk of Court, for providing that year’s register.
