Lake Independence is currently experiencing high water levels due in part to outlet channel blockages caused by floating and established cattails, which restrict water flow. Your donations to our Water Quality Improvement Fund directly support our Unclog the Channel Project, a key component in restoring water levels and improving the quality of our lake. Now that we've received so much support for our two water quality improvement initiatives, it's time to get into the "weeds" - literally! Let's take a closer look at how your generous contributions will make a difference. Our Purge the Pondweed project will target the invasive Curly Leaf Pondweed (CLP), which has been affecting many of our shorelines - especially early in the season. CLP contributes to increased phosphorus levels and algae blooms, impacting the overall health and enjoyment of our lake. We are teaming up with public partners (we are only responsible for 20% of the cost) to treat the CLP over the next five years. This proven approach has brought great results to neighboring Lake Sarah, and we're excited to bring those benefits to our own shores. Learn more on our website:
