Hi friends, David here!

It’s been almost 5 years since we took a simple idea, and created something so special from it. It was so cool watching an event become a team of individuals that brought our friends, family, and fellow enthusiasts out to support different causes by means of Motorsport.

We might’ve taken a little break to focus on some of our own individual priorities, but we’ve always taken the time to look back at the moments that brought us together, brought the community together, and brought so many wonderful hobbyists out.

We miss it, and we miss the good that came from it all. As fate would have it, circumstances have enabled the team to be closer to the area again, and the spark that we all had has returned once more.

I wont go into a bunch of detail yet.. but I SURE DO HOPE to see all of our friends this October, 2024, for the trunk or treat that started it all…

As always, give us a like, give the post a share, and we sure as heck can’t wait to update all of you soon.

With love,

The Cars & Candy Team

It’s been awhile, but we are still here!

Motorcycles. A topic we don’t really speak on. But this is still a subject of MOTORSPORT.

All of us have seen it. Two motorcycles, regardless of make or model, going opposite directions. They briefly glance, and hold out their index and middle finger. Most of us think it’s just a simple hello, or a wave.

The significance of that hand signal to other motorcyclists dates back to 1904 when Arthur Davidson and William Harley would pass each other on the road. This wave started to be noticed by passer-by and believed to be etiquette amongst riders.

The other tale dates back to WWII, as veterans purchased surplus motorcycles, the abudance of bikes and the solidarity among veterans created a huge culture, and as bikers were excited to meet one another, they would exchange the wave that we all know so well.

At the present, that two fingered salute we all know is exchanged amongst riders to wish safety amongst one another, and it is widely acknowledged as a salute to keep two wheels on the ground.

The motorcycle culture is infact a melting pot. A melting pot of jokes, humor, cool stops, and an abundance of people all of whom just want to ride, and keep each other safe, and while accidents occur more often then we want, we always make it a priority to help those within our circles.

In mid-July, a close friend of ours was involved in a collision. Demetrus Dman geared up left his house and was putting a few miles on a freshly repaired toy of his, and a vehicle pulled out infront of him. “Dman” collided with the driver side wheel well of the vehicle, throwing him and the bike several yards down the street.

Upon impact, Dman suffered a broken leg, a severely broken pelvis, internal bleeding, an aortic dissection, a C1-C4 hematoma in his back, and the strap on his helmet failed. This lead to a brain bleed.

Dman was found unresponsive, taken to an unnamed hospital that stated his chances of survival were minimal and then transferred to Cleveland metro, where he has made an astonishing recovery thanks to the men and women who have been caring for him.

This Saturday, 7/29, with help from our wonderful friends Canton Cars and Coffee and Quaker Steak and L**e Canton, OH; please join part of our team, fellow riders, fellow car enthusiasts and Dmans family for an event that raises money to cover expenses for Dman, and his wonderful family. The event is in conjunction with Canton Cars and Coffee and takes place from 10AM-1PM, followed by a small benefit ride around Atwood lake to one of our favorite dining spots.

Present the attached flier to your servers and part of the bill will be donated to Demetrus, and his family for any unexpected medical expenses.

As always, give us a like, follow along for updates, and share this post.

With love,

The Cars and Candy Foundation.

Another year of “Rally Appalachia”.

18 drivers, 27 attendees.

Some ups. Some downs, on our own accord of course.

Our first stop on the trip was Home Town Heroes on Main Street in Cumberland! A neat little pizza and sandwich shop nestled in the mountains. After a ton of driving the food was GREAT, and the service was even better.

We were greeted by the wonderful Paul Browning, and when we saw the impending super cell rolling in we booked it over to the welcome center. We just missed the straight line winds, and as we went up 160, our guide James Benjamin Bailey and half of our team started to assist in clearing whatever branches we could from the road way.

Friday night we indulged in BLACK BEAR BBQ and GRILL and the last bit of the block party at Big Stone Gap Visitor Center! A town that has always been so very welcoming to us.

Saturday we saw the wonderful Tiffany Bullock Scott and family at The General Store At Pine Mountain Crossing for breakfast! An absolute pleasure as always. The intention following that was to hit Little Shepard’s Trail, but the storm ruined that from the day prior.

We went down, hit the sling shot and surrounding trails, and made our way back to 160 where we were met by the welcome center team, and we spent some time there before heading to Ashland!

We come to these mountains SOLELY to drive, and the experience never disappoints.

The smiles we get from locals, and the questions about the cars never stop. It makes the entire trip even more special.

This is the 2nd year we worked with Backroads of Appalachia on this event. As we continue to organize these we continue to get the bugs figured out, and although there is still a few bumps in the road at times, we are always thanked from those we bring along with us.

As we wrap up year 2, we just want to thank Appalachia in all of her beauty. The people, the small businesses and the NEVER ending hospitality.

Thank you, South Eastern KY.
