Alliance for Fair Food

Alliance for Fair Food The Alliance for Fair Food is a national network of people working in partnership with the Coalition agricultural industry.

The Alliance for Fair Food (AFF) is the vibrant, diverse ally network of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), the internationally-acclaimed farmworker organization transforming human rights in the U.S. The principal focus of the Alliance for Fair Food is the Campaign for Fair Food, a farmworker-led, community-powered movement that successfully holds major food retailers accountable to the hig

hest human rights standards in their produce supply chains. Following the leadership of the CIW, the Alliance for Fair Food seeks to create a national network that brings together diverse communities in action for farmworker justice: students and young people; people of faith and conscience; food justice and women’s rights advocates; artists; worker and community groups; human rights organizations; and any individual who seeks to ally with farmworkers in the struggle for justice and dignity in the fields. Their juncture is one of the few points at which such a broad range of peoples come together in an accountable relationship with workers who are leading — and winning — their own struggle for systemic change.

Powerful words spoken at Thursday’s Vote No rally in NYC by Rev. Schuyler Vogel, Senior Minister at !

“No religion speaks well of those who hoard wealth, who deprive their fellow human beings of dignity and safety. Jesus did not say blessed are the rich, he did not say blessed are the corporations, he did not say blessed are those who make their fortunes from the honest labor of working people. He threw out the money lenders from the temple. The prophets of Israel rallied against corruption and the sins of the rich. The Buddha left his privileged life to seek enlightenment, knowing full well that wisdom lied elsewhere.

Let this be a moment of understanding – that to sacrifice workers and their well-being for profit is a sin. That the corporation led by Nelson Peltz is committing this sin by refusing to sign the Fair Food Program, an agreement that all of its peers – hardly paragons of virtue themselves—have signed on to.

Let us understand: profits gained through people’s pain is blood money. There is no moral or spiritual way to justify what Wendy’s has done and continued to do. The people up in their silver towers are not better or more valuable than those down here. The people up there are not more worthy of safety and dignity and a living wage and healthcare than those down here.”
