Whether you're new to the wheel or have years of experience, this class is designed to elevate your pottery throwing skills. Each session begins with a brief demonstration, followed by hands-on instruction tailored to naturally advance your abilities toward your personal goals. For advanced students, the projects are open-ended, allowing for creative exploration, while beginners will receive one-on-one guidance to successfully craft chosen objects like cups, bowls, planters, and more. We'll examine wedging, throwing, trimming, altering, and surface treatment in depth to ensure you develop a well-rounded skill set.

This self-guided, hands-on session invites you to personalize a hand-thrown mug (we pre-throw the cup for you, so all you have to do is decorate) using stamps, carving tools, and underglaze, or to freestyle handbuild with 2 lbs of clay.

All appointments start at 2pm and include:

In this one-day workshop, students will create a functional ceramic citrus juicer using a combination of slab-building, coil construction, and carving techniques. The class will introduce a modular approach to construction, breaking the form into simple components that come together to create an efficient and visually engaging kitchen tool.

Participants will learn how to build a juicing surface, collection area, and hanging features while exploring ways to personalize the form through texture, carving, and decorative details. Designed to be both practical and attractive, these juicers can be hung on the wall when not in use, doubling as functional kitchen décor.

The second half of class will be dedicated to underglaze application, allowing students to add color and surface design that complements their finished pieces.

Students will leave class with their juicers ready for drying and firing; finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.

In this hands-on workshop, students will create sculptural creatures destined for a communal pit firing. Using a combination of coil-building, pinching, and molding techniques, participants will learn a variety of approaches for bringing animals, imaginary beasts, and other fantastic forms to life in clay.

The class will include demonstrations on sculpting techniques, form development, and surface treatments, with an emphasis on creating pieces that respond beautifully to the dramatic effects of pit firing. Whether realistic or whimsical, each creature will be shaped with the firing process in mind.

The communal pit firing will take place on September 27th at 11:00 AM. During the firing, participants will learn how combustible materials, oxides, and protective wraps can be used to create unique surface effects and one-of-a-kind patterns. Attendance at the firing is highly encouraged, as it provides a valuable opportunity to experience the full process and see how pit-fired surfaces develop.

Finished pieces will be available for pickup after the firing and cooling process.

In this one-day workshop, students will explore the nerikomi technique by combining multiple clay bodies and colored clays to create richly patterned slabs. Through layering, stacking, stretching, and arranging colored clay, participants will experiment with composition, balance, and visual movement, developing unique marbled surfaces that are embedded directly into the material.

The class will focus on creating intentional patterns and color relationships while exploring how different combinations of clay can produce dramatically different results. Once the slabs are complete, they will be formed into elegant vase forms that showcase the patterns from every angle.

Part sculpture, part functional vessel, each vase will serve as a canvas for the beauty of colored clay itself.

Students will leave class with their vases ready for drying and firing; finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.

In this two-day workshop, students will explore the art of china painting—an overglaze, low-fire enamel process that produces durable, fired-on surfaces over previously glaze-fired objects. Similar in approach to oil painting, this technique allows for vivid color, smooth blending, and precise surface imagery without relying on the unpredictability of traditional glazes.

Students will practice on a series of commercial tiles, learning brush techniques, layering, and color development. Work from Day One will be fired before the second session, allowing participants to build additional layers and refine their surfaces on Day Two. These skills are fully transferable to any glaze-fired ceramic piece, opening up new possibilities for detailed imagery and controlled surface design on your existing work.

Each student will receive a china paint starter set to continue exploring the process beyond the workshop.

The class will explore a variety of ways to personalize the piece through shape, texture, pattern, and decorative details. Whether you prefer a clean, modern aesthetic or something more playful and expressive, there will be plenty of room to make the design your own.
