The North Lawndale College Prep Boys Track and Field team just made the 2026 Illinois State Championship and it's only the third time in state history a charter school has accomplished this. The most remarkable part is that this team doesn't have a track to practice on.

Head Coach Terrence Redmond said the team regularly uses their school hallways to train. No track. No traditional training facilities. Just hallways and hard work. Fourteen boys qualified for the state finals in Charleston.

"Everybody was willing to play their part," assistant coach Jakyra McGee said. "We've been trying to work at this for literally seven to ten years and to see this finally happen is just amazing."

Triple jump qualifier Seancory Humphries said he's ready to show the state what he's got. "I'm actually ranked third in the city," he said. "It really came from my coach making me work."
