Good things to keep in mind as your out exploring.
I personally also recommend having a tick key, or similar device for safe removal in your first aid kit!

When heading into the great outdoors, plan ahead and check for ticks afterward!

Tick activity has been higher than usual this spring, according to reports from the Illinois Natural History Survey and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

To avoid ticks:
• Use insect repellent.
• Wear light-colored, long-sleeved shirts/pants.
• Wear a hat and pull back hair into a ponytail.
• Avoid deer trails and tall grassy areas.
• Check clothing and pets upon returning home.

If you are bitten:
• Remove the tick as soon as possible.
• Use tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull it out with steady pressure.
• Clean the bite area with disinfectant.
• Take a picture of it and then flush the tick down the toilet or freeze it in a plastic bag for future identification.
• Check with your doctor if symptoms such as a rash, fever, or flu-like symptoms appear.

Shout out to all our volunteers & parents this year 👏

Join us Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. for the Saukenuk District Dinner at Bethel Wesley Church in Moline as we recognize several outstanding volunteers for their dedication to Scouting and the youth we serve across our communities.

The District Award of Merit, the highest honor presented by the district, will be awarded to Christian Leon for his outstanding dedication and service to Scouting at the troop, pack, district, and council levels. Christian’s leadership, passion for the program, and willingness to step up wherever needed have made a tremendous impact on Scouts and volunteers throughout the area.

The Heart of Scouting Award will be presented to Ina Pearsall for her tireless commitment to making sure district events run smoothly and ensuring no Scout is ever left out. Ina’s leadership, compassion, and countless hours of service continue to make a lasting impact throughout the district.

Rookie of the Year will be awarded to Sami Joe Nightengale of Pack 430 in the Rockridge area. Sami Joe brings valuable experience from her background working with Girl Scouts and has quickly become an important part of building a strong program for local youth. Pack 430 has already grown to more than 20 active Scouts, and Troop 430 is set to launch this fall.

The Phoenix Award will be presented to Jeff Whitten for his work to restart Pack 243 and help build opportunities for youth that will lead to a lifetime of success. Jeff’s dedication and vision have helped bring new life and renewed excitement back to Scouting in his community.

We are grateful for volunteers like these who continue to strengthen Scouting and make a difference in the lives of young people every day.
