Shadows of Our Silence is our campaign to give voice to those who have experienced domestic violence and to remind survivors that their stories matter.

As you visit these displays, we invite you to look beyond the question of ā€œWhy do they stay?ā€ and consider the very real barriers that can make leaving an abusive relationship feel impossible.

At each display, you’ll find one or two blank silhouettes, each representing a story waiting to be heard. You can help fill these spaces with your own story or share the voices of those who have been silenced.

Display Locations:
šŸ“Catholic Charities of Herkimer County
šŸ“Herkimer County Community College
RMCC Lower Lobby October 14th-20th

Below are examples of fears and obstacles survivors may experience.
"I've been a stay-at-home mom for 10 years. If I leave, how do I support my kids with no money??"
"I can't leave the house without him showing up and causing a scene and completely embarrassing me. I don't know how he knows my every move....."
"This is the only home my children have ever known, why should we be forced to leave?"
"If the police come to the house one more time, they told me we are both getting arrested."
