Ilion NY Community Garden We are located on East Main St, Ilion near Soapy D's car wash. [email protected] ✉️ We began this journey in 2017 with a good idea.

It wasn't a new idea, but a good idea. In 2018 the Village of Ilion Board of Trustees gave us permission to operate on public property and we got right to work. It is our belief that everyone should have a garden, so we strive to give this space to the community to volunteer in order to grow food for their home and family. Many people live in areas that are not ideal for growing food, and we are h

ere to change that. We are always looking for new volunteers to work in the garden. Fundraising for materials is always needed. Please contact us today if you're interested in helping out.

You’ve heard about Mosquito Dunks. But do you know how they work? The active ingredient in a Mosquito Dunk isn’t a chemical—it’s a naturally occurring bacterium called BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). BTI kills mosquito larvae in standing water, but it’s harmless to other living things including people, pets, fish, birds, wildlife, and beneficial insects.

The From the Ground Up schedule is here! Running alongside the Veggie Van, Cornell Cooperative Extension Herkimer County will bring 1-hour cooking demonstrations to 7 community garden sites in Herkimer County from June through October. Participants will learn five seasonal recipes, one for each month, featuring fresh, local ingredients and practical cooking skills.

The goal is to create a seamless, hands-on food education experience. Participants can visit participating community gardens to see how produce is grown, follow its journey to the Veggie Van to observe how farmers sell it, and then enjoy a cooking demo that highlights simple, healthy ways to prepare seasonal ingredients.

This program is made possible through grant funding from NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets. Each participating community garden received a $2,285.72 subaward to support local food access, education, and community engagement.
