When school is in session, children in the Central Valley School District have access to free breakfast and lunch each weekday. During the summer months, many families lose that important support.
For nearly nine years, Franco's Pizza Ilion has helped bridge that gap by providing free lunches and snacks to local children. Last summer alone, the program served more than 8,000 lunches and 16,000 snacks.
Children also enjoy activities and special experiences, including visits from programs like the Utica ZooMobile.
What many people don't realize is the significant cost behind this effort. When food, supplies, and staff time are included, the program represents an investment of approximately $30,000 each summer. With rising costs affecting everyone, community support is more important than ever.
To help secure the future of the program, Franco's is currently working toward establishing its own separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which will allow it to pursue grant funding and additional charitable support. Until it's finalized, Next - Herkimer County is proud to serve as the program's fiscal sponsor, allowing donations to be accepted and managed in support of this important community initiative.
If you are able, please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps provide meals, snacks, activities, and positive experiences for local children throughout the summer.
