We did a bit of flower arranging at our July meeting using a doily over the top of the vase to add some interest and to help stabilize the stems- fun project.

We spent a wonderful day at Origins Cafe among the flowers, plants and unique gifts. Mary is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to different types of plants and their care. Of course we enjoyed a delicious lunch and deserts.

Beautiful day for a trip to Root Glenn. A small group from our club enjoyed being surrounded by the sight and smell of beautiful flowers and trees. We also enjoyed the chirp of many birds.

There are many houseplants considered as air purifiers - here’s one. NASA has classified Sansevieria, now called Dracaena, as an air purifier due to its ability to remove toxic compounds such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.
This plant uses the acid metabolism of the Crassulaceae to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, enabling it to resist drought.
The microscopic pores on its leaves, called stomata, open only at night to limit water loss through transpiration in the heat of the sun. Unlike other plants, Sansevieria produces oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide at night, making it an excellent indoor air purifier while we sleep.

What a great time we had at the fair today. Many of our members entered plants, cut flowers, fruits, vegetables, flower arrangements, and a table arrangement. We had a total of 35 entries. We received multiple first place ribbons and a couple of second place ribbons also. 2 Herkimer County Fair theme awards and 2 best of show awards were also received. I hope you’ll enjoy the pictures of some of our entries.
