There are many houseplants considered as air purifiers - here’s one. NASA has classified Sansevieria, now called Dracaena, as an air purifier due to its ability to remove toxic compounds such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.
This plant uses the acid metabolism of the Crassulaceae to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, enabling it to resist drought.
The microscopic pores on its leaves, called stomata, open only at night to limit water loss through transpiration in the heat of the sun. Unlike other plants, Sansevieria produces oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide at night, making it an excellent indoor air purifier while we sleep.

What a great time we had at the fair today. Many of our members entered plants, cut flowers, fruits, vegetables, flower arrangements, and a table arrangement. We had a total of 35 entries. We received multiple first place ribbons and a couple of second place ribbons also. 2 Herkimer County Fair theme awards and 2 best of show awards were also received. I hope you’ll enjoy the pictures of some of our entries.

I hope all you gardeners have enjoyed this warm summer. There seems to be bumper crops of many fruits and vegetables and of course beautiful flowers. We’ve selected two more houses in the village to share with you. We hope you will enjoy them.

The Ilion and Minnowbrook Garden Club’s spent a lovely day at the magical Origins Greenhouse Cafe in Cooperstown today. We began our day with an informative overview of their history, given by Mary Leonard. We toured the greenhouses finding so many unusual and beautiful plants. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch presented beautifully, including , of course, many edible flowers.

The Ilion and Minnowbrook Garden Clubs were busy this week planting throughout our villages. With help from 10 of our members we were able to plant at the Ft Herkimer Church, the Weller Library, the Presbyterian church, and the Challenger Memorial. We enjoyed a beautiful hot sunny day of planting.
