We are also so grateful for Emileigh and the incredible wife and ministry partner she is. We love watching their daughter, Kenleigh, grow, and we celebrate with their family as they prepare to welcome another little girl!

Spiritual disciplines are not badges of spiritual accomplishment. They are practices that open our lives to God’s transforming grace.

When prayer, worship, Scripture, fasting, generosity, and service are doing their deepest work, they make us more grateful, more humble, more aware of our need for God, and more generous toward our neighbors.

That is the fruit of the Spirit.

What does it mean to be rich toward God?

It is not simply about having less, and it is not about acting as though money, work, possessions, or wise planning do not matter. It is about recognizing that God is the giver, owner, and Lord of all we have.

When we see our resources as gifts from God, they stop being trophies for ourselves and become tools for His kingdom. We begin to choose gratitude over entitlement, generosity over hoarding, trust over fear, and God’s kingdom over our own comfort.

Everything we have has been entrusted to us by God. So the question is not only, “What do I have?” It is also, “Lord, how can I use what You have given me for Your purposes today?”

What are you holding onto today?

In Sunday’s message on the Parable of the Rich Fool, we considered Jesus’ warning that life does not consist in the abundance of our possessions. It is easy to live with clenched fists—grasping for control, holding tightly to our plans, carrying our anxieties, and treating the gifts God has given us as though they belong to us alone.

But Jesus invites us into a different posture.

Open hands remind us that everything we have is a gift from God: our time, resources, relationships, abilities, plans, and even the breath we breathe. We do not have to cling to them in fear. We can trust God, release our anxieties to Him, and ask a better question:

“Lord, how can I use what You have given me to invest in Your kingdom today?”

Do you love Jesus and love students? We’re looking for someone to join us at Idalou Methodist Church as our Youth Director.

We’re building a growing youth ministry where students are learning to Love God, Become Like Jesus, and Go share Jesus with the world. We’re looking for someone who wants to invest in students, build relationships, have fun, and help create a place where students can genuinely encounter Jesus.

Worship is something we participate in together.

Our worship services center around two things: the Word and the Table. We gather around the Word to hear and respond to God’s truth, and we gather at the Table to receive Communion and remember and experience the grace of God.

Together, these shape us and encourage us to become more like Jesus.

If you’ve been looking for a church community where you can put down roots, grow in your faith, and be encouraged to become more like Jesus, we’d love to have you with us.
