We had our first preview of some of the fireworks we'll be selling for our fundraiser this Independence Day. We start next week so swing by to get your fireworks from us and join the American tradition of supporting your community while simultaneously trying to set your neighbor's yard on fire.

Happy Saturday! We’re at the farmers market this morning so stop by, say hi, and support our fundraiser! Who knows? You might even get a 1959 Triumph Roadster out of it!

Great conversation with our staff and Community Partners. Thanks to Cedo and Kendra for representing CYA at the table.

We’re at Alive After 5 tonight with our 1959 Triumph! So come say hi and get a raffle ticket to enter to win. When participating in our fundraiser, your money goes to where it’s needed the most. This could be enrichment classes at our Teen Center, funding service work or activities for our coalition, or providing food, school supplies, and other resources to families in need. Your support makes a difference in our community and is hugely appreciated.

For the last couple of weeks, we have been working hard to go over and strengthen our policies and procedures. This is something we do every summer and if we can work where the whether is nice, even better! Thank you so much to our team for their effort and dedication. Despite the setting, we have been completely focused on making sure our policies protect our teens and that we are building the safest and most empowering program we can.

May 31 is World No To***co Day, so it’s a great opportunity to have a conversation with your kids. Even if you don’t think your child is va**ng, it’s always good to bring up the subject and let them know you care and are available as a resource for them. The truth is, kids and teens care what their parents think, and one conversation could mean everything to them.

Big To***co isn’t just targeting teens. Their marketing is aimed at younger kids as well through vapes, flavored products, and social media trends. The younger they can start an addiction, the longer they can exploit them for profit.

Tips for the conversation:

• Be honest about the health risks and your feelings. Talk openly about ni****ne dependence, the unknown chemicals found in many vapes, and why this matters to you.

• Research facts together and don’t let the conversation become one-sided. Listen to your teen’s opinions and work together to come up with healthy solutions.

• Offer resources, not just rules. If your teen is struggling with a va**ng addiction, help them find healthy alternatives and coping mechanisms. There are many online resources and local classes available, and you can always contact SPaRC for extra help throughout the process.

Most importantly, understand that ni****ne addiction is real, and giving it up isn’t easy. Be someone your child can be honest with, so you can also be someone who can help them.

Narcan saves lives. If you have a loved one, friend, neighbor, or family member who may be at risk of an opioid overdose, please consider keeping Narcan on hand. Free Narcan is available through Center for Hope, and having it available could mean the difference between life and death in an emergency.

At Community Youth in Action, we are committed to substance abuse prevention and protecting the health and safety of our community—especially our young people. Prevention, education, and support all play a role in saving lives. Together, we can create a healthier, safer community for everyone.
