May 31 is World No To***co Day, so it’s a great opportunity to have a conversation with your kids. Even if you don’t think your child is va**ng, it’s always good to bring up the subject and let them know you care and are available as a resource for them. The truth is, kids and teens care what their parents think, and one conversation could mean everything to them.
Big To***co isn’t just targeting teens. Their marketing is aimed at younger kids as well through vapes, flavored products, and social media trends. The younger they can start an addiction, the longer they can exploit them for profit.
Tips for the conversation:
• Be honest about the health risks and your feelings. Talk openly about ni****ne dependence, the unknown chemicals found in many vapes, and why this matters to you.
• Research facts together and don’t let the conversation become one-sided. Listen to your teen’s opinions and work together to come up with healthy solutions.
• Offer resources, not just rules. If your teen is struggling with a va**ng addiction, help them find healthy alternatives and coping mechanisms. There are many online resources and local classes available, and you can always contact SPaRC for extra help throughout the process.
Most importantly, understand that ni****ne addiction is real, and giving it up isn’t easy. Be someone your child can be honest with, so you can also be someone who can help them.
