For our last day in DC, the Emerging Leaders visited the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Students got to see so many interesting things including the original US Flag. (No pictures allowed) A variety of items belonging to and worn by George Washington, modern pop culture items like a guitar owned by Prince and several vehicles.

Lots of fun things to see and do! See you in two years DC with our next group of Emerging Leaders.

We took the time to visit Ivy at the US Chamber of Commerce today at La Fayette Square, right across the street from DC.

Students learned a lot about the work of the US Chamber, especially in its advocacy roll to protect private business and our rights to trade freely.

Our High School age students also learned that The Greater IF Chamber (GIFC) and the US Chamber are two separate entities. We are both private organizations that actively support one another. The US Chamber supports larger business, like Fortune 500 companies while the GIFC supports smaller/local business. They learned that it is a common misconception that Chambers of Commerce are public entities, we are not. We are a private business with a public interest. If we are building stronger businesses we are building stronger communities.

It’s been a busy morning here in DC with our Emerging Leaders. After walking outside of the US Chamber HQ we walked across the street to take a look at the White House. We started to notice that police were blocking off the streets and ran down to take a look, only to see President Trump drive by.

It’s been a special day for our Emerging Leaders!

We took the time to visit the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon to pay our respects.

Later we rented some scooters and toured the National Mall at night to see the monuments all lit up.
Our students have spent the year studying the founding fathers and the creation of this special country, so it was an extra fun way to see the lasting impact of this extraordinary leaders.

Our Emerging Leaders Group had the opportunity to visit Arlington Cemetery and watch the changing of the guard and the laying of wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

It was a poignant experience as we took the time to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today thanks to the sacrifices of those who have served us.
