Moore BDA Project

Hello,
The Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) is looking for volunteers to join us for a Beaver Dam Analog (BDA) project on Trail Creek, a tributary of Antelope Creek near Moore, Idaho, on September 18th–19th.
BDAs are structures designed to mimic the natural function of beaver dams. They help slow water, improve stream habitat, increase water storage, and encourage healthier riparian areas.
We’ll be working together in the field to install BDAs to improve habitat near Antelope Creek. We’ll provide instruction, tools and work as a team to complete several structures.

Project Details:
When: September 18th–19th which is Friday and Saturday
Where: Antelope Creek past Moore, Idaho. Moore is between Arco and Mackay; the site is about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Idaho Falls.
Camping: We plan to camp near the project site at the Antelope Creek access site/campground. Please bring a tent, trailer, and camping setup if you plan to stay overnight.
Meals: IDFG will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and lots of drinking water during the project. Looking for camp cooks also!
What to bring: Work clothes, sturdy boots, muck boots, gloves, personal water bottle, sleeping/camping gear, and sun/weather protection.

This is a great opportunity to get outside, work alongside IDFG staff and other volunteers, and make a direct contribution to improving stream and wildlife habitat.

Snake River Cutthroats will be holding a weekend Conservation outing with IDFG August 28-30.

IDFG is looking for volunteers to help the Stream Team with the Tex Creek Riparian Restoration Project August 21–25.

Volunteers will assist with in-stream work building and repairing Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) in Tex Creek. This is physically demanding, hands-on work, and volunteers will be working alongside the Stream Team to help restore and improve stream habitat.

We are looking for 3–5 volunteers each day.

Weekend Conservation Outing at Tex Creek

The Snake River Cutthroats chapter of Trout Unlimited is partnering with Idaho Fish and Game for a volunteer work weekend August 28 to 30 to support the Tex Creek Riparian Restoration effort.
The work weekend will be based at the Tex Creek WMA headquarters (See map below with preferred route to HQ, coordinates and address).
There is plenty of room for tents and trailers at the HQ, and we will have access to bathrooms (as well as porta potties depending on the number of people who are camping).
We would like to get an 08:30 AM start on both August 29 and 30, so IDFG indicated that we can come in the night before on Friday August 28 to set up camp (for those who want to spend 2 nights and avoid driving back and forth).
We will also have access to a Kitchen/Prep area, but will be setting up a tent/cook area for the Dinner and Breakfasts that the Snake River Cutthroats will be providing.
The proposed schedule is as follows:
Friday Afternoon/Evening, August 28 - Set up Camp at Tex Creek HQ for those individuals spending the weekend onsite. Individuals will be responsible for their own meals on Friday, the club will have a grill available.
Saturday, August 29 - 08:30 AM to 4:00 PM - Stream Restoration project.
SRC willI will provide breakfast Saturday starting @ ~ 7:30.
Snake River Cutthroats will be providing lunch (sandwiches, chips, water) Saturday @ ~ 12:00 PMS
Snake River Cutthroats will be providing a dinner (Hamburgers, Brats, Hot dogs, salads, water, soda) Saturday @ ~ 5:30 PM
Sunday, August 30 - 08:30 AM to work complete (No Later Than 1:00 PM) - Stream Restoration project
Snake River Cutthroats will be providing a breakfast on Sunday @ ~ 07:30 AM
Snake River Cutthroats will be providing a lunch (sandwiches, chips, water) Sunday @ ~ 12:00 PM

The plan is to do in-stream (water will be very low or dried up) beaver dam analog (BDA) construction and flow reduction dams.
Some participants should bring muck boots to work in the water. Closed toe shoes are advised for all. Sunscreen and water are advised.
Groups of five or six volunteers will work with a lead who is familiar with the construction of the BDA and dams.

Tex Creek Fish shocking June 9 & 16th

Idaho Fish and Game in corporation with the national TU research arm is going to be continuing their fish passage thru beaver dam study at the Tex Creek WMA. They will be marking the fish on June 9th then recapturing them the following week on June 16th. They are looking for 3-4 people each day to help with the effort. You all are receiving this email because you helped with shocking efforts last year so are somewhat up to speed on the details. If you are interested please respond to all so everyone knows you are interested and someone will reach out with further details on when and where to meet.

We have been asked to help with a trash cleanup at the former Teton Dam site. June 3, 10:00 am.

Join Trout Unlimited Volunteers from Eastern Idaho chapters to clean up trash at one of the most devastating dam disaster sites in the United States, which also happens to be a stronghold for our beloved Yellowstone Cutthroat trout.

We will be meeting at the top parking lot at 10am to split into groups and cover all areas from the river to the canyon walls. Wear sturdy shoes. Gloves, trash bags, and safety vests will be provided.

There will be a barbeque after the clean up. Bring your beverage of choice and a chair!
