World Humanitarian Day honors the people who show up for others. In Idaho Falls, a lot of them wear aprons.

Last year our volunteers gave 9,848 hours. They cooked dinner on weeknights and lunch on Sundays, rescued food that would have been thrown out, delivered meals, and kept the Care Closet stocked and sorted. Not one of those jobs requires a special skill set. They just require someone who decided to be there.

Groups of volunteers are welcome too, whether you come with a church, a crew from work, or your own family.

Everyone starts the same way, with a volunteer orientation. Sign up for the next one at ifrescuemission.org/volunteer.

When the thermometer climbs past 90 degrees in Idaho Falls, shade and cold water stop being a comfort and start being a safety issue.

Summer shifts what our shelters go through fastest:

▪️Bottled water, by the case
▪️Laundry soap, because heat means more loads
▪️Toilet paper for all three shelters

Dinner is still served every night from 6:00 to 6:45 at 380 E. Street, and no check-in is required. Anyone who needs a plate and an hour out of the sun is welcome at the table.

Walk-ins are also welcome at 840 Park Ave, Monday through Friday, 10am to 3pm.

The Idaho Falls Rescue Mission didn't begin with a building. It began with the Church.

Long before there was a men's shelter, a women's shelter, or a meal served at Serving Hope, there was a group of believers who saw a need in our community and answered God's call.

That story is part of a much larger legacy.

Rescue missions across America were founded on a simple conviction: that the Gospel and compassion belong together. Meeting physical needs opens the door to sharing the eternal hope found in Jesus Christ.

Nearly three decades later, that calling hasn't changed.

Every meal served, every volunteer, every church partner, and every act of generosity continues a story that began with faithful Christians willing to say, "Here am I. Send me."

Our latest blog explores the history of the rescue mission movement, how Idaho Falls Rescue Mission was founded, and why the partnership between the Church and the Mission is just as vital today as it was in 1998.

💜 August is Overdose Awareness Month.

Behind every overdose statistic is a person created in the image of God—a son, a daughter, a parent, a friend. Addiction does not define a person's worth, and no one is beyond the reach of hope.

At Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, we see the devastating impact of substance abuse every day. We also witness something just as powerful: lives transformed through compassionate care, community support, and the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

This month, we remember those who have lost their lives, stand with the families who continue to grieve, and encourage those who are still fighting that recovery is possible.

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, know this: there is hope, and you are not alone.

Let's choose compassion over judgment, understanding over stigma, and hope over despair.
